To cut the ribbon on this year's ceremony, host James Corden ( The Late Late Show) borrowed Hamilton's theme song to introduce himself as the evening's emcee—but the love didn't stop there.
The audience gave a standing ovation after the cast took the stage to perform "History Has Its Eyes on You" and "Yorktown (World Turned Upside Down)."
Plus, it didn't hurt that President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama introduced Lin-Manuel Miranda & Co.

While the musical is known for its contemporary take on a historical tale, Miranda, who took home the 2016 Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre, used the time allotted for his acceptance speech to recite a love sonnet to his wife. See that tender moment below.
Another touching Hamilton-related Tony moment happened when Daveed Diggs, who plays both Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, accepted the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical.
