CBS.com: Congratulations on your nomination. Where were you when you found out the news?
BETH EHLERS: [Gives a cheer] I was in my dressing room playing Connect Four with Rob Bogue [Mallet]. It’s my kids’ favorite game, and I was like, “You’re going to really love this game!” And we could hear people screaming. He was like, “It’s the Emmy nominations, let’s go.” So, he got up to go in the other room and I snuck down to the commissary. When I finally came back up I ran into Frank Dicopoulos [Frank] who said, “Congratulations, you got nominated!” I was so surprised and shocked and honored and humbled. All good things.

CBS.com: You must be excited not only for your own nomination but the fact that the show really got a lot of recognition this year.
BETH EHLERS: The show really got a lot of recognition, well deserved, I think. In my case, I’ve carried a lot of storyline the past two years, and I kind of felt this responsibility like I didn’t want to let down the team, to be honest. I felt like they’ve given me all this story - the least I could do is pull out a nomination! [Laughs] That’s my feeling. We’re all so proud of the show.

CBS.com: You have been nominated before, right?
BETH EHLERS: I learned this interesting statistic today: I am the only actress who has even been nominated in all three categories - twice in Younger [Actress], twice in Supporting [Actress] and this is my first in Lead [Actress]. Wow, well, that’s something!

CBS.com: Does it feel different being nominated for Lead over Supporting?
BETH EHLERS: Absolutely, yes. I feel like it’s a gradual climb to get to a place where you’re driving a lot of story. That’s the difference. There’s a lot of story tied in to your character and so she’s got a larger place on the canvas. So, yeah, I do feel that difference in this category. So many women that I just admire so much - not that I didn’t [admire the women] in Supporting - those are all the women I grew up with! But Susan Flannery [Stephanie, B&B], Kim Zimmer [Reva]. It doesn’t get any bigger than that!

CBS.com: Have you spoken to Kim since the nominations were announced?
BETH EHLERS: She called the studio looking for me. Kim and I live in the same town, so we’re personal friends as well. We go to all the same parties and we have all the same friends outside of work. So for us, it was just a love fest.

CBS.com: What scenes did you submit for the pre-nomination?
BETH EHLERS: They submitted for me, because I’m not very good at that stuff, the day that I was sentenced, which I watched for the first time this afternoon. I don’t watch the show, but that’s my process. I can’t watch myself. I enjoyed watching it because I enjoyed everyone else in it so much.

CBS.com: Do you have a good luck charm?
BETH EHLERS: I’m sure if I have anything good luck it will be something tied to my kids. You know, something they made me. But I can’t imagine anything else. I’m not especially superstitious that way. Somebody might give me something. I have a lot of girlfriends on my show. We’re all very close at Guiding Light; we really, really are. We don’t say that lightly. I love my cast, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we all end up exchanging something with each other as good luck stuff. We’re all just so proud of each other.

CBS.com: Have you given any thought to what you’ll wear on Emmy night?
BETH EHLERS: I tore a dress out of a magazine and brought it in to my wardrobe guy and he’s going to see about getting that dress. And we’ll just go from there. If it doesn’t work out, then you tear out another dress. If you try it on and it doesn’t look good, then you get another dress. [Laughs] The whole process.
