I have a feeling we "the viewers" have already seen "the mother" in a past episode. My educated guess is that she is the woman who Ted briefly runs into at the club in the episode, "No Tomorrow" The beginning of the show Ted “Narrator” he said, “Kids, I never would have met your mother if it wasn’t for a little luck., especially the luck of the Irish.” Later he said, “I went to a big St. Patrick’s Day party, and it’s a good thing I did., because funny story, your mother was their.” Later in the episode after Robin admits to Lilly that she and Marshall found out their new apartment is crooked. The next shot is Ted and Barney back at the club. Ted bumps into a anonymous woman walking by and Ted briefly apologizes. The only words exchanged between the two of them Ted said, "I'm sorry" and then the woman replied, "that's okay"She is wearing a sleeveless silk multi-colored blouse, she has blackish long wavy hair, and is a little /slightly shorter than Ted and petite. Immediately after Ted bumped into “the anonymous woman” he walks over to Barney and says ““Dude, I’m having second thoughts about that theory.” Ted actually is implying to Barney’s earlier theory about “the universe,“ but he is also telling us “the viewers” that there is something wrong with all our theories of who “the mother” actually is, and all this time it’s right under our noses. Also during the closing monologue of this episode Ted said, “I later found out that your mother was at that same party/club that night, but it’s a good thing she didn’t meet me, because she would have not like me too much, but it’s a good thing I didn’t because I didn’t like me.Hypothetically other related theories of mine from some episodes that have clues, and they are in in Season One: "Milk" and "Come On."My opinion is that I believe she is the same girl Ted was supposed to meet at McClarran’s the night he had to pick up Lilly when her car got a flat tire and she’s convinced Ted to leave his blind date at McClarran’s and help her out. And later he rediscovers his feelings for Robin and never meets his blind date in the episode "Come on."And in the episode "Milk" we see Ted‘s "blind date" in a bunch of random pictures of her posing in, as Ted mentions their mutual qualities and interests. Her face is hidden, but she has similar body features as the same woman Ted ran into at the club during the episode "No Tomorrow."Could "the mother" possibly be both the woman who Ted was supposed to meet for his blind date and the anonymous woman he bumps into at the club? But I'm definetly suggesting "the mother" is the woman from the club.Ted is always searching for a specific reason “WHY?’ and that fate/destiny will have something to do with finding “the mother.“ The episode “No Tomorrow” is essential to this show and who the mother is…. Think about it!- ComeOnTed

I think there were many links as to who the mother would be. Like 1. She is the same person for whom Ted is waiting on the Halloween party on his apartment's terrace. The girl is supposed to come in Penguin’s dress2. She is the same person whose id was matched by Love Solutions and he was supposed to meet her at McLaurens pub. But then Lily calls him while she is skeptical about going to California. And Ted misses the date3. She is the one whose yellow umbrella is now with Ted.

Stella could have been at the same St Patricks Day jamboree. She mentions that the last time she went out was for a lame St Patricks Day party and they left early. So it is concievable that she was at the same event. However, I believe it to be more probable that it is a friend of Stella. She would have been out with friends at the party. Since we also got a look at Stella's friends on her and Ted's "first date", you could buy the season three DVD set and compare the girls in the movie theater with the girl he bumps into at the club. If there's a match...

I agree with ComeOnTed... I actually just posted the same conclusion on TV.com for How I met your Mother. Watching the St. Paddy's day episode, I just had a gut feeling that when he ran into a woman at the club and said "excuse me" and she replied with "no problem", that it was her. Why have that small bit of dialogue there if that wasnt' the case. And Ted had already remarked that his future wife was at the club at the same time. I'm willing to bet my life savings that it was this woman who will end up being his wife! What does everyone else think?

LOL - if ComeOnTed and I are right, can we have a walk-on role for the last episode ???

Okay remrooster, you did some research for me so I have returned the favor. As best as I can tell, without watching the episode again, the actress name is Nicole Muribrook Wagner. It looks like most of her acting experience is in comercials. It would be really cool if she ended up the part, but I kind of feel like it was a bit too obvious. Like you said, why else would they put that part in the show. But I sort of feel like the writers are just messing with us a bit here. Are you reading this Carter Bays? If so I bet you are laughing... I am of the opinion that it won't be Stella, not to say that it can't be because the people who do so usually come up with some relatively weak arguments against it. But I do believe that Stella will play a big role in Ted's ultimate matrimony. So I am sticking to the opinion that it is a friend of hers.

On a side note, (sorry ComeOnTed, not trying to go off topic) when I was tracking down that actress I noticed that the main cast has appeared in 65 episodes. Bob Saget has credit for only 62 of them. Either this is a mistake or three of the episodes didn't have a narrator. Can anyone remember an episode without him?

I think that Sara Paxton, who was orginally cast as Stella's sister, will be the mother. I read some news that said she is going to be replaced by Danneel Harris, and that she'd be cast in the show later. It may just be my opinion, but there is a remarkable resemblance between Sara Paxton and Lyndsy Fonseca (Ted's Daugther). Plus, she was originally suppose to play Stella's sister, which would have made more sense since Stella could have been at the St.Patrick's Day Party with her. Maybe she's going to be Stella's friend that Stella took to the club on St.Patrick's Day where Ted and Barney were. Who knows, I know it's a long shot, but I still have a soft spot for Ted and Robin. I've tried to come to terms with the whole Barney and Robin thing, but If you look back on episodes with Ted and Robin, you can't help but fall in love with them as a couple again.

Well I dont think that the mother is Stella or a sister of Stella.Reason being that future Ted is telling this story to his kids, if it was a sister of Stella he would have to refer to Stella as Aunt Stella which he hasn't done.Stella can't be the mother because once again he is telling the story to his kids and I would think the kids would know their mother's first name.

I like Victoria so much, but there is little likelihood that Victoria is 'the mother'.

If I recall, Stella said that she got dragged to the party by either a friend of hers or a cousin. I think that was the girl that Ted bumped into on St. Patty's Day, Stella's friend or cousin. So, Stella wouldn't be Aunt Stella, as someone else suggested. She'd just be a cousin or friend of the family's. Just a suggestion.
