I remember an episode where Tony mentions Gibbs' knee is bothering him and another where Tony makes a remark about BenGay (presumably worn by Gibbs). I think they were two separate episodes but can't remember which ones. Anybody know off the top of their head which ones? Did any show ever say how he injured it? Thanks

In "Hiatus", there was a flashback of Gibbs on crutches visiting Shannon's and Kelly's grave. It was strongly implied that the injury occurred when he was in Kuwait during Desert Storm.I can't remember the episode, but I do remember the scene. Tony tells Kate that Gibbs had been using Ben-Gay on his knee and he could smell him coming. Gibbs was standing right behind him when he said it. It was in season 2, I think.

It is also an inside joke: when Bellasario did the commentary for the season one dvd episode yankee white. When Gibbs is running after Kate, who is about to throw up. Bellasario comments about Mark Harmon's bad knees.

It was a smart idea to have Gibbs' left knee be part of his injury in Kuwait, so that they could possibly use that in the future if MH's bad left knee acted up or something.

Didn't we actually see Gibbs injured in Desert Storm during one of his flash backs? I think it was when he was in the hospital.

The bad knee comment was in the Yankee White commentary by DPB.

The commentary option should come up when you ask to play the episode. You either select ON or OFF when that comes up. The mention of the commentary is a small blurb on the DVD slip cover, so it's easy to miss it on that.

I looked at the cover where all the others are too. Nothing, i will have to watch the episodes to see if it comes up with a Commentary ON / Off like the others. Can you think of an episode with the commentary option, so i can check that specific episode ?

That's strange...did you buy the dvd's from a reputable source? That's the only ep with commentary for season 1. Season 2 commentaries are on eps: The Bone Yard and Twilight. Season 3 commentaries are on eps: Kill Ari Part 1, Frame Up, Boxed In, and Bloodbath. Season 4 commentaries are on eps: Twisted Sister, Dead Man Walking, Skeletons, Cover Story, and Angel of Death. Season 5 commentaries are on eps: Bury Your Dead, Requiem, Dog Tags and Recoil.
