It could be like the TAR1 and TAR3 races, where one team misses a flight that puts them so far behind. They could also not pay attention when getting plane tickets and go to the wrong Portland, but that just seems unlikely. The language was pretty strong from the producers. I will have to favor the loss of their passports. They are kept in that special fanny pac with all the other documents they have to keep safe, like route markers and detour/roadblock clues. If they lost that bag, then at a minimum it would be 48 hours to get a new passport re-issued so they could continue on. By then the production company crews would be so far down the race, that the route markers/detours/roadblocks would have been finished. It sounds to me like it took so long to resolve, that they couldnt even get to the finish line to join in the finish. The first year that they started showing the Elimination Station, which I believe was TAR-11, not all the teams that were eliminated, didn't even made it to the villa. Depending on where in the world a team was eliminated, some of them just were flown to the area of the finish line to join the racers that were being flown in from the Elimination Station. In that race, the elimination station was in Acapulco and the finish was in San Francisco. I remeber The Guidos calling the elimination station to tell the other racers, that they would meet them the finish line. In TAR-12, the elimination station was in southern Portugal in Faro, and the finish line was outside Anchorage, Ak. For TAR13, they are back to Acapulco.
