That is a very interesting point about his hands being in his pockets all the time and about the "ladies" and "red". I just read another post that said they signed for a full season of the Mentalist and I am so glad to hear that. I really enjoy it. It's light and serious at the same time.

Jane's haunted by RED John. He's obsessed. He never cleaned off the smiley face from his wall! Every case he takes is in memory of that killer. That's why red is so much more prominent here than in any other crime show. I think we're way over thinking this....wait. okay. I'm convinced it's just Red John, but I've got to say that over thinking is what Jane does best, and he's usually right. ... Okay, now my head hurts.

When I first noticed it, I associated it with the killer Red John murdering Jane's wife & child and how that murder continues to haunt him.

Now, I am curious to see what the next few titles will be , but what if you removed the REDS in each of them to see if there is a message there, maybe a clue for something happening in the future. So far I read 'Hair and Silver tape Tide (or tied) women in (the) woods." But then again, maybe the movie homage reference is right? *shrugs* i think ur onto something there i find ur view very interestingi think that seeing theat the nature or the show seems to say everything has a meening so shouldnt the titles of the epersiodsit would match everything alse in the show and if ur theary is rightthat is like way cool and makes sence seeing how patrick jane thinks

Perhaps it's really communist propaganda? Perhaps it is a Red Herring intended to divert our attention? My real suggestion is that a show like the Mentalist is not like a show like LOST or Jericho. It has a story line, but you really can pick up anywhere and pretty well understand what's going on. However, the makers would rather you watch EVERY episode. But how do they do that without jeopardizing the experience of newcomers? They insert a pattern which lends connectivity to the whole. If it's all part of a bigger puzzle, people are more likely to watch than if each episode is isolated. Besides that, it intrigues people. Obviously

I just think it's because the writers wanted to do a recurring title theme. Blood=Red, Red John, it all fits well.

ok..here's my 2 cents...1. we are all far to perceptive (LOL) and are reading too much into this!2. the post connecting red john to jane makes perfect sense!3. red is considered an aggression color. jane is angered about the loss of his family. red john is angered about jane "mocking" him on tv (which prompted the killing of jane's family)....just my thoughts....

I've never noticed. But I'm sure it's significant. Blood, murder, death comesto mind for me. Passion and love also comes to mind.

The red theme has inspired me to make the text color in my posts, well...RED.

I'm surprised this is even a debate. I think Nmbr27 has hit the nail on the head, and I never considered any other option. Patrick Jayne is who he is and where he is because of Red John. This is essentially a show about Jayne redeeming himself for his fraudulent past, with the intention of one day catching Red John. As far as I'm concerned, the red elements and titles are simply a reminder of this search, because the writers are all to aware that a 3 season hunt for a serial killer just isn't going to keep the viewers interested.

I think "red" is supposed to refer back to Red John. aFter all, it is because of what Red John did that led to Jane's decision to join the police force as a consultant and abandon a profitable profession as a psychic.

wow...is it absolutely neccessary for bout 80 people to say just bout the same thing 200 different ways?? lol but good thoughts yall and i really LOVE this show!! and i agree with yall that its probly the constant reminder that Patrick will never stop tryin to catch red john and stop other people from havin to go through his pain. (losin someone they love and not gettin justice) all the red is just the underlyin theme of the whole season

Lets not get too cocky now! You know what happened when Jane got too cocky. But you definitely seem to have some interesting ideas. But remember-Pride is a sin.
