Just wondering if you have ever had anybody on the board who actually lives in Genoa City? I thought it did not exist until we had to relocate to the area . It is so funny that it is a tiny little town and nobody in it seems even aware of the show . The references to the area on the show are all correct though.

It is just over the Illinois border in Wisconsin and only has about 3000 people . Very small .

Regarding there being a real Genoa City Wi. I live in Madison WI and didn't even know that. What is funny now is knowing that, they hop a plane to Madison, but yet Paul drove Patty to outside of Green Bay to the nut house. Excuse me....that is a 4 hour drive easily from the real Genoa City and yet he has time to drive all the way back within nano minutes to tell people he took her there. Or how about when he tells people he went to visit Patty there and comes right back?

How do you like the story about the tire chains last year.....They are illegal in WI..LOL

I knew gc existed. a long time ago(in the mid 90's)Bill bell gave an interview and and said it did exist and he modeled the town after it to a point. He there was somethign obviously not real like newman and jabot but other things were true. It is funny how people do not know things like this about their own town. good example is walnut grove, minnesota. Everyone thinks that is where laura ingalls wilder grew up and lived untill the town was taken over......(ok not everyone) Nope. I believe they have a farm called rockyridge in either indiana or iowa or some place. they did live In new york I think as well. But untill the book took off with the show, hardly anyone knew of sleepy eye and mankato and walnut grove. Imagaine my shock when I found out about it after moving to minnesota myself and having lived in mankato and not being too far from sleepy eye. The writers and producers need to really start thinking things out or least geta map of gc lol.

Well , there are some interesting things about the location . When we have a winter storm here or a tornado ..they also do on Y&R! When they mention streets and highways ..they are correct . Area codes and zip codes are also correct ! So someone definitely keeps up with the goings on of the area.

the fact that Bill Bell used a real place as a backdrop for his show; shows his talent and how Y&R grew to be the #1 soap for all these years. However, sadly Mr. Bell has passed and so has the glitter of this show. The currect writers don't have a clue.

fayerae, I knew that Genoa City is actually a real town albeit the fictional Y&R version of Genoa City is more glamourous than the real town. The Bell's lived in Chicago and vacationed up in Lake Geneva, WI and knew the area well. It's kind of weird that hardly anyone there realizes that Y&R based in that town. Before the writers changed Brad Carlton's family history, they always said that Brad Carlton was from Rockford, IL which is in northern Illinois about 4 hours away from Genoa City, WI. Brad said he was from Rockford when the character first appeared on the show.

3000? You must have counted all the cats and dogs! *L*. Last data Isaw said the population is under 2000. But it is 10 miles from Lake Geneva where the Bells had a summer retreat back in the 60s and 70s..

I live in Trevor, WI, not far from Twin Lakes; where Brad and Coleen perished. I have noticed that the writers are often right regarding streets and landmarks. I clearly remember when Adam couldn't get a job and he was going to work for Mars Cheese Castle. LOL I don't think they'd have him! Although mostly right,I couldn't find the "Camp" in Twin Lakes where Coleen died though.

Yes , I too think the camp was fictional and I don't know of any poisonous spiders in the area . The Genoa city population sign says they have 2070 people I think ...but that was before the subdivisions and other construction .
