Dear CBS - you want to know what we think - I hate that there is a dumb talk show and game show with clam people that has taken the place of our ATWT/GL - i have never watched the awful shows that CBS put on in their place - I was 3rd GL gen. and now I never tune into CBS where my stories use to be and I wlll never will - is that clear enough CBS.

"I've had the great fortune to work with an extraordinary group of executives, producers and talent who make CBS #1 in daytime," Bloom said in a statement. "With CBS Daytime teed up for success and stability for many years ahead, the timing feels right for me to make a change now and seek something different. The dramas have multi-year renewals, The Price is Right has great momentum with Drew, Let's Make Deal with Wayne Brady is firmly established, and The Talk is a growing franchise. I've been a writer, a producer and a programming executive, and now I'm excited to see what the next chapter has to offer." A report published earlier today by Daytime Confidential asserted that Bloom was forced out of her position due to ongoing fricition with The Talk host Julie Chen. Chen is the wife of CBS President and CEO Les Moonves. "Julie wanted her gone," Daytime Confidential reported, citing a source. "Barbara was told she had until today to clean out her office." CBS vehemently denies reports that Bloom was fired. "Barbara artfully led CBS through several key transitions in her eight years here," said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "She helped usher in a new era on The Price is Right with Drew Carey and guided delicate programming changes from two daytime dramas to successful game and talk shows while maintaining CBS's leadership position in the daypart. All of these efforts have positioned CBS very well for the future. Daytime is successful, profitable, refreshed creatively and has more variety of programming for our audience. We wish Barbara tremendous success wherever her talents take her." Bloom was named Senior Vice President, Daytime, CBS Entertainment, in 2003. Prior to joining CBS, Bloom had worked within ABC Daytime for the better part of a decade. During Bloom's tenure with CBS, long-time game show host Bob Barker retired as emcee of The Price is Right, and CBS canceled two of its long-running soaps, Guiding Light and As the World Turns. CBS has not yet named a successor to Bloom.

No other cookie is more directly associated with a Norwegian Christmas.

What You'll Need

  • 100g/4oz/1 stick of butter
  • 200g/8oz/1 cup of sugar
  • 200g/8oz/1 cup of blond syrup such as Caro Corn Syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tea spoons of ground cinamon
  • 2 tea spoons of ground cloves
  • 2 tea spoons of ground ginger
  • 600g/24oz/6 cups of flour

What to do

  • Melt, mix and cool down the butter, sugar and syrup.
  • Mix in the eggs.
  • Add and blend in the spices.
  • Add and mix in the flour to a hard dough.
  • Leave in a cool place for 24 hours.

Bring out the dough the next day, roll out and cut it into shapes before baking:

  • Break off handfulls of the dough and roll out to a thin (2mm or almost see through) wafers. Use plenty of flour to prevent the dough from sticking to the table.
  • Use traditional cookie-shape-cutters or a knife to cut cookies into hearts, men, women, pigs, stars and other christmas motives.
  • Put the cookies on a greased/non-stick baking sheet, or use non-stick paper, and bake for 5 to 7 minutes on 180 degrees C / 350 degrees F.

Make sure all the cookies on a single baking sheet are equally thick, or else some may burn while others will be too raw. The cookies have a nice healthy tanned look when they are baked correctly.
