So for most folks, we wouldn't share the same information about our selves with the receptionist at work as we would our life-long best friend. That said, wouldn't we all agree that the birth of a child or a proposal of marriage are both events that can and do happen in the public forum as well as in private? Now that is not to say that that is everyone's cup of tea though. As jem said, she would not probably appreciate that very much. And neither did JJ, and in turn, someone who takes a chance like that, such as Will's proposal, leaves himself open for a disappointing response. Although, I don't really think he or anyone else who does something like that, ever expects less than the unequivical "YES!". If you roll the dice, sometimes you roll CRAP.My point being, I think we are led to believe that the girls in the BAU team are becoming friends. I do like the slow progression of the friendships, as they seem true to what would really happen if the characters were real. And with "real" friends, and I'm speaking on women not men, don't we all have really good friends that... like to pry? You know the type, we love them, they can be our sisters, best friend, whatever, but every time we get together, they want all the "juice", especially the good stuff, the private stuff, whether it's "I think Joe is cheating on me..." or "OMG, I think I'm pregnant!". And they also pry in that oh so familiar way.... teasing. Making the innuendoes, the giggles and nudges to each other. My thinking is that the closeness of the BAU team, and the caring they have for each other, is what Will picked up on. It wasn't at a baseball game on the big screen, it was in front of her friends/co-workers. People she shares much of her hours and she knows care deeply about her and her welfare. Was he pushing? yes. Did he put her on the COMPLETE spot? yes. Right or Wrong? For me, neither. Just a way to make the character JJ open up more. where is spell check? why don't they have that here???

I'm a private person as well, LuvtheJem, which is why I understand both perspectives. I get why JJ wants to be private, but I also get Will because I'm a guy (and like I said, there are usually only two sides that it can go for a guy, caring too much or too little). So it is hard for me to pick a side, though I've chosen to support Will because I like his character and because I found the way that JJ was reacting as rather irrational.As for JJ considering her co-workers as actual friends, I think she does. She considers the team as family, and most people are friends with family or people they consider family. And she seems quite chummy with Prentiss (that seems a little more to me like a friendship than just two co-workers). I think her not wanting to tell them is more of what JEm was saying about the privacy thing, but it would have been nice for her to talk to Will about it so that he didn't think that she was ashamed of him (and trust me, a lot of guys in that situation would confuse her privacy with her not being serious about the relationship).I like the idea of Will picking up on the closeness of the team. Maybe he figured that JJ would be happier if she could tell someone that she is close to. The main thing is that I think they both could have handled the situation better, but no one has a perfect relationship and they are both good characters.

I think it depends on what you mean by "change". And in what capacity that change is applied, not necessarily forced. In any relationship there is always change, because feelings grow, situations come up, within the relationship as well as outside influences. The kind of change I meant to convey was more one of compromise or adaptation. Change that all relationships experience, and healthly relationships become closer and more bonded. I believe that two people have to be open to one another's needs, adapt when it's possible, and compromise when it's not. So, as no two people are the same, regardless of how similar they may be, their needs and wants may also come at different times, and then they work together, with an open ear, and an open heart. I feel that change is generally a good thing, as in that, we do grow. The idea is to grow together instead of apart. It is my belief that having too much unwillingness to be flexible with your loved one is a force in itself. Just the opposite direction.LOL... Help jem, please throw me some rope... Its not simple to say I am going to change my form of thinking or doing things and its hard. Im putting myself in Will's shoes. I'm going to feel that way she's ashamed of me and our relationship. A year had gone by and she didn't say anything to her co-workers aka "family." All I am saying is that she is happy, she has a boyfriend, she is pregnant and she wants to keep it a secret so nobody could know. I am a private person, and I have my formed opinions no one can change. And by simply stating that I have a boyfriend his name is Will and that I am happy but I am not going to give details on how it happened. That's not losing my privacy and how I manage who I am. But when you enter into a relationship you have to adapt to each others feelings and really see how to work things out.

The fact that she explained the situation as not wanting to tell anyone because that would make the relationship "real" seemed irrational to me. Like you said, it had been a year, shouldn't the relationship already be considered "real." I think that not wanting to tell people had less to do with JJ being private and more to do with her being afraid of a serious relationship, and Will pushed the issue because he wanted her to get over that fear. As for the coffee (which is a much less energy-draining convo for now, surprisingly), she seems to be handling it alright. After all, her sense of humor was in full gear during "Paradise," so I would think that would suggest her being alright.Watched the Fisher King Part 1 on A&E last night, and found myself laughing loudly at the first twenty minutes or so. It was very refreshing to see the team take a vacation and enjoy themselves for a change, even though it didn't last. I had seen it before, but it was a while back (when I first started watching the show and still didn't know the characters well, so it was a good memory refresher on how good the episode was).

I do watch some of the CM stuff on youtube, but I usually only watch scenes from the show or interviews of the cast. There is some behind the scenes stuff that I've checked out to (people post that from the DVD's). I've watched a couple of the videos that the users make, where they mix a bunch of stuff in one video, some are good but others don't hold my attention. Just keep on giving her the amount of time that she had on "Paradise" and I'll be quite content!

Those are the type of episodes that you do a couple of times each season, and people really look forward to the next one when it comes. If you do it every week, two things happen:1) The novelty wears off, and people get tired of the personal stories, and2) the show loses focus on the purpose of it, which is the profiling.

One thing to consider. A character based episode doesn't have to be about their personal lives. Take The Crossing. Okay, it was split between two stories, but the JJ aspect dealt strictly with the job. Why that case was so important to her -and along with that, touching a little specifically on the fact that she has to turn cases down and what can happen when they tell someone no. And, we learned that it's not just a matter of JJ deciding and that's it, the case is theirs. She has to go through red tape and justify her choices. Even some of the personal stuff (well, maybe not strictly personal, more character-centric) tied in to the job. We know JJ's a private person, so it made sense that she would be bothered by having to invade the privacy of the innocent stalking victim. So, it focused on JJ, tied into her job and her character, and the only personal story came at the very end of the episode, where she told Will she was pregnant. And, people could easily make the argument that people could grow tired of the work related stories. I'm not saying they should do Criminal Minds: Vacation Time (unless pretty early in the vacation they're interrupted by a case) but I think a full rich show blends them together. I don't think it's either mostly job stories or mostly personal stories. An episode can still be focused on the profiling and a character's personal story. How the job effects the character's personal life or vice versa while on a case. JJ being a mother has to give her a different perspective on cases sometimes that she didn't have before and it would still relate to the job. But, I don't think every week should be based on one character, but not because of personal stories. Because I think it's not possible to do that many good episodes where one character is in the spotlight. I think the majority of the episodes should be team episodes, and they should all share the focus, get something to within the episode. And, then have a few episodes that focus on one character.

The focus is the job, not the personal lives. The reason why I don't like CSI as much anymore, and don't even watch House is because they focus more on the personal stories now then they do the job. When that happens, the show starts to become like a soap opera. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I started watching the show because the BAU's job was interesting, and I would like for the show to continue focusing on their job. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy learning some things about the characters, but I think having character episodes on a weekly basis is overkill.

Really, there needs to be a standardized definition of "soap opera". To me, it's not a soap opera until you have a romantic triangle, mistaken identity, a long lost twin, and just to be on the safe side, someone locked in a dungeon or attic or cave for half the season. Guest stars don't count. Anyway, I don't think the show should ever not be about profiling and the job. I just don't think the character stories take away from that. Of course, when I describe the show, I don't say it's about profiling. I say it's about a team of profilers (plus a liaison and a technical analyst).

And an example of this is Garcia, who has become a principal character. So I wonder if this is just script evolution, or is it a direct impact of character popularity. Sorry if I caused any confusion, since obviously CBS as a whole would not focus their attention on only CM when they have a ton of other shows. I think the producers of CM do put a little weight into what the fans think, probably more than most other shows. I believe Ed has been quoted as saying that he knows that all of the characters have a solid fan base. He could only learn that from forums, not the ratings alone. Also, they are shooting 27 episodes this year because of the season being shortened by the strike last year. I see that as a classy thank you to the fans for being loyal last year despite having a shortened season (and CM is the only show that I know that is doing that). Do the boards have a huge impact on what they are going to do, no. But I do think it might have a tiny effect. I agree with you about the character stories not taking away from the profiling, the writers are doing a good job of preventing that from happening. I'm just saying that other shows have not done quite as good a job, but I trust that CM's writers will continue to do excellent work. Also agree with the idea of episodes being focused on the team aspect, and then having a few episodes on one character. We know enough about the characters to know whether we like them or not. Hope that made sense, sounded a lot better in my head. And even if it did change the fan base, you might not be able to tell by the boards. A lot of how the fan base is shown on the net has to do more with which users are on. A lot of young girls use the boards, which is why Reid and Morgan are so popular on the boards (because they appeal to young girls). Of course, they have other fans, but those fans might not use the boards. Same with the other characters. When I see a poll on the net that says that 33% of the fans think that Reid is the best, and then the other characters get 18%, I don't think that makes Reid the most popular in general. To me, those polls only mean that Reid has the most fans online, which only represents a small amount of the total fans. Personally, I (and apparently Ed as well) think that all the characters have around an equal amount of fans. That is part of the reason why Reid getting so much screen time compared to the others doesn't make sense. And it wouldn't make sense for me if any of the other characters suddenly got that amount of time, either. They need to divide it better (especially since many fans, like myself, enjoy all the characters and want to see all of them).

You don't have to like him, JEm, just tolerate him. Be happy for JJ, she has a family now. And it was a good episode. I didn't really see it as a Reid episode. I mean, they covered his drug abuse a bit, but everyone got substantial time. I saw it as an episode that mainly focused on the case, wasn't really devoted to anyone.

Loud colors really don't bother me. But I live in Florida, where the old people all wear very bright colors, so I'm inured to any sort of shock value they usually carry. I judge someone's professionalism by how they conduct themselves when they're on the clock. A little flirting at work isn't a bad thing, it can make the workplace less stressful, help people relax. But there is no universe in which drinking on the clock will ever, in my opinion, be acceptable for anyone other than bartenders and taste testers. The difference is that one is generally harmless the other is not.

I understand why they used Morgan, him and Em have always gotten along pretty well, and he is very protective of his friends. The only reason why they used Rossi, in my mind, is that he is Catholic and that he also has the legend status to bend some of the rules. But they could have let JJ talk to Em a little, it would have only taken a few minutes and could have been an awesome scene. Of course, the episode as a whole was fantastic, so there really isn't much to complain about.

She hasn't been that inconsistent. The first episode was rough, but the writers were rusty. The last episode they should have found time to give JJ and Em a scene, but they didn't because they didn't use JJ at all. Wasn't that she wasn't supportive, it was just more of a behind the scenes thing. So JJ hasn't changed much (after the first episode back she has been quite normal), it just has to do with how she is being used. They should have used her there, if only for a few minutes before returning to Rossi-fest, but they didn't. Asa JJ fan, I'm used to that kind of crap (it has been happening all four seasons, so it doesn't really surprise me). The psychic thing did surprise me, because it was something that was completely out-of-character and made no sense. Her not talking to Em much was more of just the writers not using her enough, and less about JJ being out-of-character. When she was on-screen, she was in character just fine (unlike Cold Comfort). Hope that makes sense (sorry that it was a bit lengthy, I started to ramble). Can't really blame you for not wanting to mess with those two (JJ may shoot you right between the eyes). I'm a little concerned that they disappeared together, though. I see that the effects of the last episode have worn off, since you are calling her the Crawfish again. LOL! I also see that you are comfy with her not being there, since you called her weird. Didn't your mother ever teach you not to judge others? ROFL, JK!

It was disappointing to not see her be there for a friend, but you're right, that probably was more to do with them spending a lot of time on Rossi. But even Garcia got to do her little supportive moment. It's a circular logic type thing, they didn't use JJ much so she didn't get a chance to be supportive, which is completely out of character for her because she would have made the time. LOL! I'm still in a decent mood, but after dealing with the LG people, it has faded somewhat. No matter what my mood he will always be the Crawfish to me. It just got driven home how bad his accent is whenI watched Independence Day this past weekend. Harry Connick Jr. has a real N.O. accent, what the Crawfish tries to pass of is a terrible immitation.

That was my point, though, JEm. Besides that first episode back, she has pretty much been in character. That last episode you can look at in one of two ways. You can look at it as her being supportive when she was on-screen (which she was), but never being given the time to talk to Em (which she should have had). Or you can look at it as her not getting the time, and therefore her being out of character because, as you pointed out, she would have made the time. I think of it as the former, because it is hard to jam a bunch of stuff into a show that last less than 45 minutes after factoring in commercials. There is a chance that JJ and Em would have talked off-camera (though I don't like to assume that character interactions are going on off-camera, I actually like to see them unfold), but the writers were so busy with Rossi-fest that that was the end of that. Maybe there will be a deleted scene on the DVD between them in that episode. But I don't think that not being used is being out-of-character. I think that taking actions that are strange for your character (like going to a psychic for help) is out-of-character.

I too think that JJ was out of character/ the writers missed an opportunity to showcase their friendship. Firstly, Em has been there emotionally and physically for JJ--after her attack with the dogs and when Garcia was in the hospital holding her hand, just to name two off the top of my head. We've seen JJ be there for friends before--when Garcia asked her to sit with her a little bit, JJ did. Then, Emand JJ have had deep meaningful jet convos.Also, it's not like JJ shys away from emotional distress--she often is the person talking with the victim's families. Plus, i can't emphasis this enough--they are women playing in a male dominated world, irregardless of howsupportive their male co-workers are--there would be either a natural competitiveness or camaraderie between them. And since we've seen them be close, (plus, add Em's looking after Jordan) i've gotta believe it's the camaraderie scenario at the BAU. So, why they didn't give JJ and Em a scene is inexplicable and almost unforgivable. I know, you know, everyone knows that rossi and Morgan were good company for Em, i'm not saying otherwise--i'm just suggesting that a very meaningful and important relationship was overlooked--and it's a terrible waste to not give AJ more screen time--especially if it means Em and JJ connect.

sweet-- Brace yourself for some shocking news. *pausing for a minute* Are you braced? Okay. I agree with hum here. Shocking, I know. LOL! Anyway, we have seen JJ make the emotional connection on several occasions, so it seemed very weird (to me) that she didn't do that this time. When someone's friend dies, that's not exactly the time to emotionally distance yourself. J was there for Emily after the Carrie thing, so she obviously doesn't shy from the emotional subjects. It makes no sense why she would do it this time.

They made my refrigerator, which has been deemed irreparable and must be replaced. *sigh* It only took seven service calls in a year and a half to figure that out, after replacing pretty much every part of the stupid thing. LOL! Anyway, on to the subject of JJ. Not being there for a member of her family is out of character for her. But the more time wears on, the more I'm blaming the writers for just not writing her a very good part this past week. She had more glimpses than scenes, really. LOL!

red-- LOL! She did look happy, didn't she?Time away is good for her. It seems the writers have traded Reid for Rossi in the contest for screentime domination.

hum-- Preach it sister! LOL! I agree with you. JJ has been there in the past, there is no reason for her not to have been there now.

Shocking JEm really knocked my socks off there. While I agree she needs more screen time Idon't think it has to necessairly be revolved around her and EM even though I know you girls would like that. I just honestly wouldn't picture JJbeing the one to step in and be super supportive in the midst of the case because of her "reserved" demeanor, maybe afterwards a word or too, but for an emotional situation like that and an emotional case I don't think the writers dropped the ball with not having her be there for EM. JJ's nice and everything and she has her good moments but she isn't the first person to come to mind as far as showing emotional support...she's known for being a bit emotionally distant for a lot of the time, thats why she is often compared to Hotch when it comes to the whole stoic mannerisms. More screen time for JJcould easily be her moments with Garcia when her humor gets to come out more...or her moments with Hotch. Iknow the case with those three girls and the case with the psychic she was a bit emotionally connected, and also with the dogs attacking her...but other then that when else does she make emotional connections? (I'm not being argumentive just seriously curious, Ioften forget)
