Penny and Leonard

The cliffhanger from last season was the prospect of Leonard and Penny getting together. Then, they flirted with the idea further with the start of this season. Now, it's all done and forgotten. WTF? Penny and Leonard just go on without ever addressing. Why did they even bother to flirt with the idea?!

I don't think the original idea of getting Leonard and Penny together is forgotten. In The Codpiece Topology we saw a jealous Penny, so she feel something for Lenny; and vice versa. It's true that in The Barbarian Sublimation they acted like they never went to the date, but, hey, they are adults. Leonard and Penny aren't Ross and Rachel, who were always fighting. They're trying to go on with their lives. PS: I'm sorry if my english is so bad you can undestand a thing,

Re:Penny and Leonard

I really enjoyed the fact that Penny and Leonard were about to hook up. Then thought with the idea about how a person like Leonard would date such a free spirit like Penny and the trials and errors behind each of them dealing with the worlds they would both be introduced to. Penny introducing Leonard to her world of fashion, acting, nightclubs, dancing and the idea that his mind is a beautiful thing that should be alwasy surrounded by things that don't have alot of personal human contact. On the other hand Leonard intro ducing Penny to things like going to comic book conventions, waiting in line to see a special screening of a film and of course comic book costume events where they both spend time working on comic book related costumes. Such as Penny being Supergirl and Leonard being Red Arrow or something. The entire formula has changed dramatically especially with Sheldon being more callous toward Penny. Either pointing out her flaws or being more demanding by ordering her to sit on the portion of the couch that is primarily set aside for him. (Which by the way in episode where Penny is introduced to Gaming Sheldon didn't sit in the seat he said he would sit in when he found his seat in Penny's apartment) I really enjoy Leslie always showing Sheldon off when she is in the episodes. Hopefully with her character, Sheldon will follow his mother's advice. "It's okay to be smarter than everyone but you can't always keep telling people they aren't. Why. Because they don't like it."As for Raj and Howard I enjoyed Raj's time with Penny he's starting to break out of his reluctant code of silence as for Howard, Penny should actually call on his flirting. By bringing in a friend who can understand why he is that way with his cheap lines and but point out it's okay to be who he is and date a woman, that will not only be everything he wants but, be able to meet his mom without being yelled at.Overall I wanna see Penny hook up with Leonard then let the show work on the idea of them being a couple instead of teasing the audience with them trying to hook up. We see lots of shows about the unattractive guy with the girl and how the relationship works. "King of Queens", "Everybody loves Raymond" "Still Standing" Etc Please don't let us wait 5 or 6 years for Penny and Leonard to hook up like other shows.

Penny and Leonard are not done yet. If it is one thing they still have to do to keep this show going is to have them sleep together. It could possibly be a drunken one night stand sort of thing. It would make it more interesting. She seems to be getting closer with Sheldon ( not that a romatic relationship would be the result) but maybe a little more jealousy from Leonard. Whatever they do, please do not remove the show. It has been a long time since I have found something worthwhile to watch on tv and it not be a reality show.

Re:Penny and Leonard

Well, as far as Sheldon and Lesley goes, I think it would be out of Sheldon's character to go for her as he looks down on her. I think there's something in the future that the screenwriters may bring out for Sheldon, but I really don't think that they'd make a good match as they hate each other's guts... But, I agree, there may be some entertainment value for some people... Penny and Leonard. Where to begin with them. I don't mind their thing being stretch out over time. In fact, I think that the date at the end of season one may have come slightly too early. But we'll see. I'll always be cheering for them, but I would like to see them take some time with the relationship, as opposed to Penny's 36 hours of rebound sex. eugh.

Re:Penny and Leonard

If a series is going to last more than two years it must have a carefully crafted story arc. That is the practical reason Penny and Leonard cannot get together now. But the fact that they both want to is a vital element grounding the stories for this season. Sheldon and Penny make absolutely zero sense, although Sheldon and Leslie Winkle kind of do [and please note that their relationship- and they definitely have one- is in fact the only truly passionate relationship in Sheldon's life- and maybe in Leslie's too].The relationship that Leonard and Penny could have would be far deeper and stronger than Sheldon and Leslie's precisely because in almost every way they are different from each other- which means that each of them has many things that the other one lacks, with the only common denominators being that both are very tolerant and considerate people. This last one common trait is what makes a very strong deep and lasting bond possible between them. Opposites attract for a reason- and that is why Leanard and Penny's real desire for each other is very deep rooted indeed- it is essentially chemical. But, by the same token, the huge differences are also barriers to understanding. So logically it amkes sense that there must be a long process involving misunderstandings, miscues and even unintentional insults and hurts (such as when Leonard responded to Penny's misgivings by coming over with a Community College course catalog during the season opener) before the two finally find ground they can stand on together as a couple. If I was writing the script for that moment I would actually have Koothrappali explain the idea of each bringing what the other lacks to Penny- marking a great moment of triumph and growth for Koothrappali as the very first time he is able to lok a beautiful woman in the eye and speak clearly, eleoquently and to the point to her. But before that moment can happen there must be a very long time when Leonard and Penny are moving towards each other by fits and starts- each step requiring courage and often marked by disappointing failure- but they keep it up because deep down it is what they both really want. And that can be a part of the storylines for many, many episodes to come. If the shows writers agree with me then it is a fairly safe bet that the series finale [may that be many years delayed] will actually be the wedding of Leanard and Penny (with Sheldon and Leslie winding up in the sack together?). Question- would that make the show resemble a sort of comic science genius version of a Jane Austin novel? The fact that this sort of thing is even possible is part of what I like about this show- this is not standard sitcom plots with yet another formulaic ensemble. There is a formula of sorts to this show- but it is a unique formula. I think that this show has more potential than any comedy that has come along in a very long time. Comedy has more potential to speak to the deepest parts of human nature than any mere drama and this show is much better set up to deliver on that potential than any that have come along in a very long time indeed. And I agree about the lack of full episodes. They did have them for the first season. It did not stop me from buying the complete first season DVD, so what is the problem?

I do wish Penny and Leonard would get together. He is like the longshot underdog and there could be some cute situations that could arise. Also, her being a free spirit and he being somewhat reserved is great, opposites attract right? Sheldon and Leslie. Not a bad idea, the distain betweeen them could provide intensity in their attraction. I do agree she is not my favorite actress or even in my top 200 but I think it could be written to work as long as they don't make it a constant thing.

You know how they say opposites attract. Oh and two people who hate each other endup closer than ever. For Leslie and Sheldon to end up with each other would be predictable.I think Penny and Leo are just taking a break and seeing others like they said. I'm sure Penny isn't liking it too much but tolerating it so far. They're communication is off. They're thinking the opposite of the other. Like when Penny thought he didn't like her cuz she didn't go to college. These misunderstandings is what got them separated in the first place until they decide to sit down and really talk things over.

I agree with what the last poster said- the misunderstandings are a part of this process. And to condirm this idea I listened to a clip of Penny discussing the show and specifically discussing the possibility that Penny and Leanard might get together eventually- but not for a long time AND that in the meantime they would both do things that carry them in the opposite direction at times. Last nigfht's episode was very obviously one of those.

Re:Penny and Leonard

When Penny and Leonard finally get together that will be pretty much the end of the whole point of the show. The writers have to draw it out to create more suspense, however they do need to throw us a bone once in awhile. I think we got that when Penny admitted this week that she was being nosy in asking Leonard if he slept with Stephanie and then gave him a quick awkward peck on the cheek after a somewhat patronizing "Good For You!!!'The writers do need to give us some more obvious romantic tension between Penny & LEonard though. I love when they try to make each other jealous and i think that's where the writers are headed with Leonard and Stephanie. Unfortunately it is taking too long because they focused on Sheldon for so much of the 2nd season so far and i'm afraid viewers are getting restless.

Re:Penny and Leonard

Mr. Prady, one of the show's producers and creators, was just interviewed by TC Guide and has essentially confirmed the story line [with explanation]: " Prady: [In an early draft] they did not go out at the end of it, and it felt so unsatisfying. People said, "Careful, there are many sharks waiting to be jumped if they [have a date]," but we felt that if we were honest to the characters, the first time simply wouldn't go well. And they won't try it again for a while. My feeling is that the reality of that guy, with that girl, will start and stop over the years. This is of course the nerdiest writers room in television, and we've all brought our experiences of being nerds who loved pretty girls. What happens is you take a shot, you screw it up, you back off, time passes, you take a shot again.... Penny's not yet at the place in her life where she has figured out that the Leonards of the world are better for her than the Biffs. But she'll get there, someday"The good news: They think the show will run a long time. Better news: Penny and Leanard get together- but they are properly saving this for the end, just as I suspected. And this is dramatically right. Again, a geeky men's Jane Austen- lots of fun characters and it ends with a wedding.

This is an ensemble show- so it may be hard to insert 'sexual tension' between Leonard and tension in every episode. Unfortunately the modern sitcom episode only has about 21 minutes of time. And some of the Sheldon episodes have been hilarious. Maybe we just need to be a little more patient.

I fell in love with this show because it's hilarious, but honestly, the whole Leonard/Penny thing was kind of the one thing that didn't really do it for me. I like both their characters, and they're cute when they interact, but the whole boy-in-love-with-the-unattaina ble-prett - -girl thing... Meh. It's like Ted and Robin on HIMYM. The only reason I can forgive that relationship is because the whole show's told in flash-back so we know from the start it doesn't last. Sorry to poop on anybody's Leonard/Penny parade, but I wouldn't be too torn up if they just forgot about it.

Yup, sitcoms need sexual tension and Cheers was the master of sexual tension. The writers discovered that the show was much funnier when Sam and Diane were fightisn than when they were dating. I would think Penny and Leonard will have more near misses but it is too early in the show to have them date.I do think they should do an "alternate universe" show next year where Leonard has a dream that "the boys" are cool and a not so attractive Penny has a crush on him. It could be great, Sheldon could be a rap master with a sideways baseball cap, one of the could be a biker, Leonard could just be a stud with a lot of women chasing him and he would like Penny but but just as a friend. Kind of a reversal of rolls so Leonard could see life through her eyes.

Think about it - Diane was the nerdy brainiac and Sam was the floozy. They were one of TV's greatest couples, and they can't work it out or the show will be over. That's one of the reasons why Big Bang will be such a success. Even if Penny sleeps with Leonard, even more than once, they will never resolve their love because that would be it for the tension, no more show. Another reason the show is now and will continue to be so successful is another TV formula: people value intelligence and they want to feel smart. Frasier was for wine-cooler sipping yuppies, but it worked because, if you noticed, in all the puffery there was a ton of slapstick. I mean every episode came down to some base silliness and immature comedy. Same with Big Bang. I mean I can't even type "Big Bang" without snickering because I have a dirty mind and I think that's what they were going for.Well they got me. I'm hooked. I want, against all hope, for Penny and Leonard to get together. Sigh. I think one day Penny should have a line something like: "Of course Leonard's brilliant, he's attracted to me, right?"Is season 2 out on DVD yet? Anyone?Sheldon and Leslie? How did this get started? One thing about them - anyone capable of intense and damaging put downs would also be able to give some pretty good compliments. The way Sheldon built up Lolita and put Leslie in her place, successfully stealing one and getting rid of the other. He should use his power for good, instead of always bragging about being the top of the food chain.

I have absolutely no interested in Leonard and Penny as a couple. It's not only the lack of chemistry, that plot ceased being interesting after The Middle Earth Paradigm.
Re:Penny and Leonard

I disagree with the last poster. One of the main writers has actually already explained the dynamic operating here. Remember that a lot of what is unique about this show is drawn from the real life experiance of the writers who watched their uniquely brilliant friends dealing with the social setting. Right now both Penny and Leonard have backed away- because they have to. Looking for formulaic sitcom 'chemistry' is simply inappropriate. Leonard has backed off because the first try blew up. He will wait a while and then try again. Meanwhile, in the words of one of the shows creators "Penny has not yet figured out that the Leonards of this world are a lot better for her than the Biffs. But she will get there eventually." In fact the dynamic here is fairly simple: Neither Penny nor Leonard are ready for each other. They both need to grow and learn things before they are. I think this is great- both far more interesting and far more true to life. And for those reasons a whole lot funnier than a standard sitcom romance.

Sorry. I like Leonard, I do, and I like Penny. I just don't like them together. I agree they both need to grow, but that's certainly not gonna affect their relationship if the writers keep having them spend so little time together. And while growth is good and true to life, let's be honest here, this isn't Dawson's Creek. It's a sitcom. A sitcom that is not very true to life in alot of aspects, and it's absurdity is part of what makes it hilarious. And I also disagree about it not being a standard sitcom romance. Of course it is. Guy meets girl, likes her, pines for her, it helps if she is out of his league. This can also be reversed with genders. Will they won't they...Yadda yadda yadda. It's very typical. Which to me would be fine if I thought the two actors had the necessary chemistry. I don't think they do, and that's huge in trying to sell this whole "meant to be, even if thats not right now" thing. I also don't get what they see in each other besides Leonard thinks she is hot, she thinks he is nice because all she knows is jerks. Is that it? YAWN. Maybe if the writers had them interact more, but so far most of her screen time is with Sheldon. And now with the whole "I can't date Leonard because he is smarter than me" was blown out of the water by Penny dating the hunky scientist dude, it will be interesting to see where the writers take it. What is keeping them apart now? She obviously wasn't put off by the other guy's smarts. So that's interesting. I just don't want to see the writers try and scrounge to think of another silly reason to keep them apartI see a friendship connection. That's about all I see. Sorry to disagree, but I do.

I was afraid Penny dating Leonard would mess up the show. When the audience wants a relationship to happen and tunes in each week to see if it occurs, once it does, the audience is satisfied and there is really no reason to watch. There have been too many good shows ruined when the leads gets romantically involved. I really liked the way they just stayed friends in season 2. They satisfied the what if question without screwing with the chemistry. That being said, I think that there can be a few dating possibilities that could enhance the show without risk. 1) Sheldon and Leslie 2) Raj and Sheldon's sister, Missy and 3) Penny and Howard. If they break up no big disaster, but if they date, there is plenty of material that could be hillarious. Of coarse, my husband wants Penny and Sheldon to hook up for a one nighter, but that is a guy for you.

Some see their interaction as haing a sexual tension to it, but I don't. They practically loathe each other, and not in a "I-loathe-you-but-secretly-wil l-jump-yo - r-bones" kind of way. The show basically put out there that the two of them being a coupld won't happen, because if Leslie can't make a go of it with Leonard due to a difference regarding string theory or whatnot, how could it EVER work with Sheldon? Pus the idea of those two squicks me out. Pare that with Leslie and Leonard having way more chemistry, and well, you know how I feel.If the show does do a couple, I would actually like to see Sheldon with Penny. Maybe it's because of how well the two actors work together, or maybe because I sense more chemistry between them then with Leonard, or maybe because I think it would be a more interesting and funny storyline, but there it is. Yes, I know some people say he is incapable of a relationship, but I can't believe the show will have him be that way forever, and as the show is going along you can see he is sloooowly changing a bit and its mainly due to Penny's influence. Besides, he HAS admitted she is attractive in at least one incidence("no one can be this attractive and skilled at video games" during Halo night) so we get that he at least finds her physically attractive. And at least for me, when Penny and Sheldon bicker they have more respect for each other and "tension" then he ever does bickering with Leslie. Leslie and Sheldon's bickering is full of vitrol. When Penny and Sheldon were fighting in the Panty Pinata ep, I thought "are they gonna start making out mid fight or what?" Maybe I am crazy, but I could see that happen.Leslie and Sheldon--no.Howard and Penny--hell no. LOL.Raj and Penny--yeah, no.Probably it will be the Leonard and Penny paring in the end, but to me that's a giant snoozefest. I guess, if thats the way they go, no romance for anyone would be preferable.

Re:Penny and Leonard

Expecting sexual tension in the relationship at this early stage is a no go for me. Leonard is only beginning to value Penny as a whole, and not just because she's pretty. Similarly, Penny isn't really interested in Leonard because at the moment she sees him as just a friend. If the writers just threw them together without any development, the show would get shot down. These people are from two different social sectors and for them to build a happy romantic relationship I think they really need to develop as people and get to know each other. So, potentially I have a lot of hope for Lenny. I definately don't want it to be a Ross/Rachel thing - I think they need to be just friends before they can move the relationship on.
