Re:Official Thread: Episode 8

Wow---Pay Attention to Detail Disorder was a full blown epidemic this episode. Do these people not carry their clues with them? Tina and Ken did not wear their costume, and Tina almost had them take a cab to the Pit Stop. Ken tried to get Tina to read the clue again, but he needed to be much more assertive. Maybe he doesn't want to antagonize her, but please--KEN, call SOME of the shots.Team Dandrew---I have never seen a more inept team make it this far in the race. Calling the people "horrible" sure won't make them want to help you. I know, I know, they didn't say that to the people, but their attitude sure conveyed it. I wouldn't have wanted to help them either.Terence/Sarah--You two knew it was going to be a feast, what did you expect, side salads? And after seeing Nick/Starr go for the FF, maybe you should have gone the regular route anyway? Let Nick/Starr get first, and knock off the weakest team of Dandrew while you had the shot. You can't make the final three if you don't even make final four. Sorry to see you go though, especially Sarah.Toni/Dallas--Way to have fun. Moo. Moo. Classic stroll in a cow costume through Kazakhstan. As for the FF, I would have had a difficult time with it as well. Not the eating, but by being distracted by the dancers behind me. Who could concentrate on the food?

I also know about not eating meat on Fridays during Lent, and a variety of fasting rituals in many cultures and religions for a variety of man-made reasons and "laws".

Sad to see Sarah go but glad Terrence is goneWell my teams came 1,2 again...so yay for thatBut seriously people....the eating challenge...for any fan you know every year they have a fast forward or roadblock that invovles something (to most) disgusting but is a part of that countries culture. So for all those up in arms about it heres a couple reasons to get over it1) Its a tv show2) They sign up knowing what they are getting into3) The challenges are already made up WAY in advance (im sure CBS didnt go hmmm Terrence is a vege so lets do a FF that makes him eat meat so he cant do it)4) They couldve turned around as soon as they got there5) Seriously....is it that serious to get up in arms about? 6) Dandrew made a great point by saying...2 teams left for the FF only ones going to get it...so lets not go for it and try to get a cushion up on the other team who doesnt get it I do feel bad for Terrence...i eat meat and even i couldnt stomach to think of eating that. But dont make it a religious debate that CBS is doing this to get rid of teams...seriously...what about the season that the FF was drinking a glass of blood and Lori and Bolo did it. Does that mean they catered to the vampiristic religion? (and yes there is such a religion)I do think theyre something fishy though with Dandrew not getting a penalty...because if they couldve gone back why couldnt Mark and Bill? If youre a fan of Terrence and Sarah why not focus on this...they made up time because Dandrew...well arent the fastest team on the race

Re:Official Thread: Episode 8

Without having read the "official rules" for TAR, using only logic and reason, here's my guess as to why the boys were given a "redo" instead of a penalty:It has to do with at what point the offense occurred. If it happens right at the end of the race leg/episode, and they have the ability to go back and do it again, then they will be told to do so. Otherwise a time penalty.Since Dandrew took the cab to the pit stop, it is easy to just make them go back to the beginning of the cab ride and walk to the pit stop. In the case of Adam and Jamie, er..., Mark and Bill, their offense had taken place much earlier in the leg/episode, so it would be impractical to make them go back and do it over, hence the time penalty.I vaguely recall an episode a few seasons back where the teams had to bring something (a Travelocity gnome?) to the pit stop and one team didn't. I don't remember what happened to them, if they had to go back and fetch it or were given a time penalty or whatever.

This has happened at least twice before,In season 7 both Meredith/Gretchen and Joyce/Uchenna did not complete the task correctly,it involved moving downed trees in Africa,Uchenna forgot to pull the post at the beginning of the trail and Meredith completed the detour but failed to get the clue,on arriving at the pitstop Phil told them both to go back and collect the post and the clue before they could check in.In season 11 Dustin/Candace completed the road block after just stumbling onto it and were again told they did it incorrectly, thus having to go back and collect all the clues, same as in season 5(?) with Chip/Kim and the stupid twins...If the mistake is made at or near the pitstop teams have a chance to redeem themselves.

Re:Official Thread: Episode 8

Very good explanation, pcgh. Just to elaborate, the beauty queens in Tar-11, missed the route marker for the detour. It gave them a choice of running the rapids or doing some rock climbing. They stumbled upon the river rafting put in point and so did the rafting. At the end, they got the clue to go to the Pit Stop, which the did. Phil made them go back and pick up the detour clue. Since the Pit Stop was only 10 highway miles from the detour marker, it probably cost them about the 30 minutes to return and get it. As to Bill and Mark, if Phil had made them go back to walk that particular stretch of the leg, I suspect the time amount it would have cost them would have been much much more. The late day traffic was killer and in all respects, they would have probably would have had a 2-3 hour penalty. Whichever the case, they would have still come in last and been eliminated. In Tar-1, the two female lawyers missread the final clue after the soccer roadblock in Brasil. It cleary said to "walk" to the pit stop, which was about a mile away, all downhill. They got a cab and were driving to the Pit Stop and reread the clue. Then in true lawyer fashion, they started debating the intrepretions of the clue. They actually asked their camaraman(as if he was a Judge) if it was okay and were told it was okay. The two lawyers got into a debate in the cab about the directions and intrepreted it to mean to "walk" to the mat, not "run" to the mat after they got out of the cab, which they did. They actually self-reported this incidence and in the end were given a 30 minute penalty and were eliminated. They actually had a sit down with the lawyers and the team that had already been eliminated at the end of the show to explain the penalty. So the 30 minute rule has been in effect since TAR-1. I think today, there is much more communication between the cameraman/soundman with "race control" and the mistakes are known to Phil when they step on the mat, which was not known in TAR-1 at the mat.

Of all my years of watching AR last night was my favorite. I am an adoptive mom of two, who 7 years ago were adopted from Almaty, Kazakhstan. When the two options of the detours were shown, the memories came rushing back as I was at both of those places. "Play like mad" was at an instrument museum that is near war memorial park and the yellow building that was shown in the background is a Russian Orthodox church that was built using no nails, just wooden pegs. It has withstood earthquakes. In "Act like a fool" the bazar that they went to is known to the adopted parents as the green market. I have pictures of the meat area of that market. We also did go into the mountains of Kazakhstan, so that portion of the leg also brought back memories. I do agree with Terrance or who every it was that comment on Kazakhstan being a beautiful county, because it really is. Barb

So sad that Terence and Sarah were eliminated! They were great! They would be fine if they didn't chose the fast forward. As for Andrew and Dan,I can only said that they were lucky to be still in the race.I can't believe they are still in the race despite they were in the last place most of the time.Nick and Starr got first because of the fast forward.Great job of eating up the plate of sheep.Toni and Dallas were so cute as they wore the cow costumes, going on the street, and making the moo sound. It was funny. For Ken and Tina, they made a lot of mistakes but came in third.Look forward to the next episode where teams go to Russia for the race.I love the part where teams had to find a golden eggs among 3000 chickens.Kazakhstan is a great place!

If Sarah had chose the fast forward, Terrence would have been throwing a fit because he couldn't or wouldn't eat meat. He would have been telling her how stupid she was. Have to agree the FF said a feast so Terrence should have known that meat was involved it usually is. If they had just went ahead and did the road block when they didn't get the clue box first they would probably still be in it. What is up with not reading the clues You would think after all this time people would learn to really read them. Good for Ken when he read the clue and made Tina listen. Maybe he should try that if they get back together, make her listen to him more.

i do not understand why Ken did not give Tina his jacket with a hood to save time in the rain? He was taken to the waiting area and able to be dry and wait while Tina travelled all over Moscow. He shows some good traits and some bad traits just like Tina and all of the racers. I have seen much praise for him from her on his tasks lately and not much praise from him for her. She is giving it her all. He wanted to give up and not run or try and find the last clue. I thought he played in the NFL? She is encouraging him and telling him to shake out the cramps in his legs and staying positive until the end. I admire her as she never gives up - maybe Ken should take a clue from this.

Re:Official Thread: Episode 8

The Amazing Race 13 - Episode Eight Commentary - 11.16.08 Departing from the Pit Stop; the teams are now heading out to Almaty, Kazakhstan. I bet they are really relieved to finally be leaving stressful India. In the process of searching and booking their flights; Dallas and Starr are continuing their budding flirtation with each other. It seems from what we keep seeing, they do look to be getting along well with each other. We'll keep watch to see if it progresses any further. All of the teams are able to secure the same flight to Kazakhstan, except for Andrew & Dan. Once again; their bad luck continues. Oh wait! Maybe not! Andrew & Dan don't have any luck with the ticket counter, but actually run to the gate for the flight and are able to literally make it on at the last minute. I was happy they were able to make it, because I don't think there would of been any way to catch up if they didn't make it. Arriving in Almaty; the teams now make their way to the Alel Agro Chicken Factory where the next Roadblock awaits. They have to search through the chicken coop to find one of the golden eggs. However; not only the Roadblock awaits them here, but also the second Fast Forward of only two on the entire race. Nick & Starr and Terence & Sarah decided to race for the Fast Forward and who can get it first while the other three teams go for the Roadblock. After completing the Roadblock task pretty fast, the teams are now heading out to the Koktobe Arch by a crane truck. Back at the Fast Forward; it turns out the teams must eat an entire helping of sheep meat. Terence & Sarah were all ready at a disadvantage because Terence is a vegetarian. So after struggling; they basically handed the Fast Forward to Nick & Starr and now have to go back to the Roadblock to make up lost time. I had a feeling this could be the death knell for them now, losing all this valuable time. I don't see them catching up.Eventually; Nick & Starr finished their plates and won the Fast Forward. Now they're heading to the Pit Stop at Old Square and obviously arrive in first place yet again; winning two wave runners. They are definitely on a roll, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they make it all the way to the end; even win the entire race. Going back to the race route; the teams arrive at the Koktobe Arch and watch a trained eagle land on a warrior's arm delivering their next clue. It turns out it's the next Detour; this time between either Play Like Mad or Act Like Fools. It was no contest; I definitely would of chosen Act Like Fools, because Play Like Mad would of drove me crazy. It would definitely be very funny for the teams to be lumbering around in these cow costumes. Andrew & Dan though hit another roadblock where they can't find their way to the arch. Will they ever get over this bad luck? Terence & Sarah are a good distance behind, but are still chugging along. Ken & Tina meanwhile weren't paying too much attention and didn't see their clue on the bottom of the glass of milk. What made matters worse is they bring their costume back when they weren't supposed to, as they had to keep it with them. Man, what's happened? They got to get it together and read those clues! Andrew & Dan are continuing to falter, where they leave their shoes at the costume shop; in affect losing them. What made matters worse for them is they took a taxi to the Pit Stop instead of walking on foot, hope this doesn't get them eliminated. But good news for them, they were able to complete the task properly and make it to the Pit Stop, staying in the race. C'mon guys, get it together!Unfortunately for Terence & Sarah; the quest for the Fast Forward came back to haunt them as they couldn't make up the lost time. They arrive at the Pit Stop in last place, becoming the seventh team eliminated from the race. It's too bad going for the Fast Forward set them back so far, but they tried hard. Hopefully Terence won't be as annoying now. Who will be eliminated next? We'll find out soon, see you next week!
