Tara & Wil found the mill, immediately followed by Chris & Alex. A few moments later, Blake & Paige showed up. The three Teams hurried through the ruins, frantically searching for the clue box. Walking through the ruins in the near pitch-black darkness, Tara & Wil were the first to uncover the clue and learn they were to select a waiting 4x4 vehicle and drive it to the Water Tower at Pauwela Pineapple Field. ( Teams hunt through the Sugar Mill ruins)
The sun rose as the three Teams made their way through the myriad of Hawaiian pineapple fields, searching for the Pauwela Field. Tara & Wil were the first to make it. As they approached the route marker, Tara saw several mountain bikes in their path. "Oh my God, we gotta mountain bike? I suck at mountain biking." The separated couple grabbed the clue envelope just in front of their competition.
This challenge involved a Detour. A Detour provides a choice between two distinct tasks, each with its own set of pros and cons. In this Detour, Teams had to decide whether to mountain bike or to run through the large pineapple field. In either case, they would be searching for colored pineapples hidden somewhere in the field. In "Bike," Teams would pick up speed by pedaling, but they would be searching for the one red painted pineapple. In "Walk," Teams would have to search by foot, but there were four yellow painted pineapples in the field, and they would only have to find one.
Tara & Wil quickly decided to go on foot and ran off into the field. Blake & Paige and Chris & Alex made the same decision. All the Teams felt their chance of finding one of four yellow pineapples was much greater than having to find the one red pineapple. Tara hopped on Wil's back to get a better view. She explained, "I got on Wil's shoulders and I spotted it within 40 seconds." They snagged the clue from inside one of the yellow ceramic pineapples and headed back to their 4x4. Noticing that the separated couple had found the prize, Chris & Alex also ran for the same pineapple. ( Alex talks about the pineapple challenge)
