Back in their 4x4s, Chris & Alex decided to drive to Fairbanks Airport instead of Anchorage Airport. They felt Fairbanks was closer and might give them an advantage over their competition.
 Arriving next at the Roadblock were Tara & Wil. Deciding to perform the Roadblock, Wil put on the safety materials and hacked away at the ice. He then decided to use the torch and then the drill to work his way through the globe. Blake & Paige arrived in last. "Ooh, baby. This is going to be fun!" said Blake as he stormed up to the last remaining ice globe. Both Teams pounded away at the ice. In the end, Blake beat Wil by a few moments and both Teams rushed off. Wil was pleased to learn that he and Tara were headed for San Francisco as he had lived there years earlier. He noted that both he and Tara had serious roots in the City by the Bay and felt it might serve to their advantage. ( Teams chip away at the ice globe)
Debating about which Alaskan city to head to, Tara & Wil eventually settled on Anchorage. Paige wondered if Chris & Alex went to Fairbanks. "No, you'd be crazy to go that way. We definitely want to go to Anchorage," Blake told her.
"This was a real tough call. I hope we made the right decision," Chris commented as he and Alex made their way to Fairbanks in their vehicle. "Anchorage is a bigger airport. But I think Fairbanks is a little closer," Alex replied. They arrived in Fairbanks and entered the airport terminal. Asking around, they quickly realized they would have to fly to Anchorage before heading on to California.
Blake & Paige were right behind Tara & Wil as they arrived at the Anchorage airport. Both Teams made it to the terminal and determined that flying Anchorage to Portland to Oakland was the fastest route. Tara & Wil booked their flight just as Chris & Alex's plane landed in Anchorage, where they eventually joined the other Teams. Tara hugged Alex as a disapproving Wil looked on. Wil felt his partner should stay focused on the race instead of hanging out with the competition.
