We were invited for tea in a café…

We were in Egypt about five years ago and had a fabulous time. The best night was when we walked across the bridge over the Nile and entered into the local neighborhood. We were the only Americans and were very welcomed. We were invited for tea in a café, where I was pretty much the only woman, although I was treated with much respect. It was wonderful.

The only thing I would say is that Egyptians really want to sell things and really try to get you to buy. Ballpoint pens were great to give out. I also would bring a Polaroid camera to give pictures to children. Of course, all the monuments are awesome and humbling. Be careful when booking a camel ride around the pyramids. I heard stories of being led out where there was no one and being either robbed or threatened with not being taken back unless more money was given. The latter happened to my brothers. Times have changed, and I don't know if it's a good time to go. But it was one of our better trips.
