Be certain to find the Artist Paint Pots…
Karen, Olathe, KS
I've been to Yellowstone 17 times. It's a beautiful place and deserves a visit of at least several days to really see what's there. Don't just see Old Faithful and assume you're done. My favorite place is the Porcelain Basin at Norris. It's otherworldly. Also, the Back Basin at Norris is where you'll find the world's tallest geyser, Steamboat. It erupts very erratically but you could be lucky. Mammoth, near the North Entrance, is different from everything else in the park. Instead of geysers, there are shimmering terraces flowing with water. Be certain to find the Artist Paint Pots. They're bubbling mud pools. I showed a video of them to my child's fifth grade class and they wanted to stay in from recess to watch more mud pots! Don't miss the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone either. Yellowstone isn't just about thermal features. Take a ranger-led hike. The one to the Petrified Forest is hard work, but worth it. One last thing--you can fish in the park, but not from Fishing Bridge!
