7-22-04 HoH: HIGH LOW COMPETITION
In this week's Head of Household competition, all the HouseGuests except for Marvin are blindfolded and positioned on a series of steps. Julie tells the HouseGuests that she will read a question that has a number in it about either the HouseGuests or the Big Brother House. If the HouseGuests feel the correct answer is a higher number, they will step up. If they believe it is lower, they will step down.
For example, Julie's second question is, "How many nights, not including this one, have been spent in the Big Brother house--is the number higher or lower than 19?" If the number is higher, they are to step up. If the number is lower, they are to step down.
Drew comes through for the Four Horsemen and wins the competition.
7-20-04 POWER OF VETO: SNAG THE VETO
This competition is called Snag the Veto, which entails unsnagging a 100-foot rope. Six different ropes are laid out and tangled together across a set course. A ring is attached to the end of each rope, and to win, a player must to unwind the tangled rope and thread the ring through three separate walls and then place the ring on the post at the end of the course.
The challenge is to not only unsnag the rope, which is difficult enough, but to navigate around the other players who are also trying to unsnag their ropes.
7-17-04 FOOD: CATAPOULTRY
The BIG BROTHER backyard becomes a barnyard in a little game called Catapoultry. Two giant slingshots/catapults are erected in the backyard. Opposite the catapults are several rows of food baskets with labels for different kinds of food, from Seafood to Beer to Fruits and Vegetables to Bacon and Sausage. The goal of the competition is to take a rubber chicken, place it in the catapult and then fire it at the baskets. If the chicken stays in the basket, then the HouseGuests get that particular item for the week. Sounds simple, but of course there is a catch. There's a Bad Egg basket that wipes out all the accumulated loot, forcing the HouseGuests to start over. The HouseGuests accumulate an impressive array of foods until Will hits the Bad Egg basket and all the food drops to the ground. Starting from scratch, they manage to land a few chickens in the baskets, scoring some Milk and Butter, a little Bacon and Sausage and some Seafood.
7-15-04 - HoH: MAJORITY RULES
The second Head of Household Competition of BIG BROTHER 5 is called Majority Rules and forces the HouseGuests to think more about the group than about themselves as individuals. Each HouseGuest except Jase (the outgoing Head of Household cannot compete) steps into their own private booth and has to answer a question posed by Julie not on what they think is the correct answer, but rather how they think the majority would answer. They answer by sliding a panel in front of them to either red or green. If you're in the minority, you're out. If you're with the majority, you stay in for the next round. Julie informs the HouseGuests who will stay and who will go. Over half the HouseGuests are swiftly eliminated, but then things stalemate as those left standing all answer correctly. Julie announces a tie-breaker question relating to the first Food Competition. Marvin gets the answer right and becomes new Head of Household.
