Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Ed Asner is the only actor to win Emmys for playing the same character in both a comedy ("The Mary Tyler Moore Show," on CBS) and a drama ("Lou Grant," also on CBS). He is also a recipient of the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE is his 11th primetime series.
Asner is perhaps best known for his role as Lou Grant in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," for which he received three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. His other television credits include "Lou Grant," for which he won two Emmys and two Golden Globes, "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill," on CBS; the mini-series "Roots," for which he won an Emmy Award, and "Rich Man, Poor Man," for which he won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award.
His series guest appearances include "The Practice," "ER," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Simpsons," "The X-Files," "Mad About You," "Roseanne," "Police Story," "Here Come the Brides," "The Fugitive," "Please Don't Eat the Daisies," "Dr. Kildare," "The Virginian," "The Untouchables" and "The Outlaws" and, on CBS, "The Ellen Show," "Hawaii Five-O," "Rhoda," "Mission: Impossible," "Gunsmoke" and "Route 66."
Asner's feature film credits include "Elf," "The Animal," "Hard Rain," "A Christmas Carol," "JFK," "Moon Over Parador," "Fort Apache, the Bronx," "They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!" and "El Dorado."
