HANK'S DATE: FARM LIVING IS THE LIFE FOR HIM
As Hank, the options trader from Chicago, prepared a 3-course meal for the Shannons, he made it clear that he was ready to answer any and all questions the family might have for him. Sure enough, Mike started things off by asking Hank to describe just exactly how he got into his line of work. True to his word, Hank explained that he found the competitive nature of the business most attractive. He also told the family that he hoped to make enough money to get out of the business one day and open up his own organic farm.
Mike offered to run the wine tasting department. He agreed with Kimberly, however, that he couldn't picture Lisa living on a farm. After all, what about her career? Lisa told him, "When I have my kids, I don't want to have my job." Despite those misgivings, Lisa's father was quick to give his blessing to Hank, as were Brian and Phyllis, who added that Hank and Lisa "make a great-looking couple." Hank was pleased to have the approval of Lisa's family, but also expressed concern that they were saying the same things to all the guys. Afterwards, he and Lisa had some alone time, which Lisa called the "most exciting part of my day."
Laura called Hank "the perfect host", adding that when she walked into the house for dinner, "I felt like I was walking into your and Lisa's home." Kimberly heaped further praise onto Hank, observing, "(Lisa's) face lights up when she sees you."
Hank chose to respond to Lisa's father's concern, telling Lisa, "You gotta keep your job," laughingly adding that if they got married, "You gotta be the breadwinner too, my friend." Lisa was cracking up as she told Hank how much she appreciated the trust she felt from him, which she called "so mature and indicative of what a real relationship should be." Brian joined in the fun, telling Hank that if it didn't work out between Lisa and him, "Lisa's dad'll date you."
DOMINIC'S DATE: I THINK I CAN
Next up was Dominic, the bartender and college graduate, who decided to prepare an easy dish since his cooking skills admittedly left a little to be desired. Unfortunately, his best-laid plans went astray as the bratwurst he'd chosen to cook ended up getting burned nearly to a crisp. Things didn't get much easier for Dominic when the Shannons showed up and immediately served up tough questions for their host. When Dominic admitted he wasn't sure what he was going to do with his business degree, Laura joined in by telling him, "You have to figure it out." Lisa tried to help Dominic out by encouraging her father to take a hot dog, even though they were clearly burnt.
The grilling continued after dinner when Mike pressed Dominic about his intentions for his daughter. Each time he was asked, Dominic claimed that he thought he was ready for marriage. The answer resonated with Lisa's father, who noted that Dominic said, "I think I'm ready versus I know I'm ready." For her part, Phyllis didn't think it would be fair for Dominic to get married at such a young age. After dinner, Dominic told Lisa he liked her parents a lot, and then moved in for a kiss, adding, "You were a lot of fun too." The two then cuddled on the couch, leading Dominic to later fret, "When it turns hot and heavy, it's tough to just say goodbye." ( Dominic's Date )
Laura began her criticism making fun of herself for saying the same thing each week: "You're handsome, you're sexy, blah, blah, blah." But then she got down to business, stating her case about Dominic plainly: "You're not, not even close, not even for half a second, you are not ready for marriage." Kimberly gave Dominic credit for handling a difficult situation well. But she too had a similar bottom line for Dominic: "You'll make a good husband someday, just not now."
Dominic defended himself, once again using the same two words Lisa's father had commented on earlier, "I think I'm ready." Lisa acknowledged her warm feelings for Dominic, but also admitted, "I am leaning towards my family and friends. There's a huge difference between 'I think' and 'I know' when it comes to a lifelong commitment."
ROBERT'S DATE: A NEW BEGINNING
Robert, the fitness model from Los Angeles, chose to prepare a soup from his native Austria for the Shannons, despite the fact that he wasn't too sure which ingredients belonged in the recipe. Meanwhile, Lisa's parents were interested in seeing how the night was going to turn out, since Robert's earlier dates with their daughter had caused quite a commotion on the show. Mike confronted Robert about this, noting that Robert had taken a lot of criticism so far. Robert responded with a laugh, explaining, "Your daughter made me nervous. I don't know what else can I say." The rest of the dinner, however, seemed to put everyone at greater ease. When it was over, Mike appeared genuinely impressed with Robert, telling him, "You're a different person than I thought you were going to be. And I mean that as a compliment." After dinner, Robert suggested giving Lisa a massage, an offer she gratefully took him up on. Robert noted, "Today was like a new beginning for me."
Laura started off by praising Robert's hosting skills. But then she turned more critical as she told Lisa that she couldn't believe that Lisa went along with the massage, but she assured Robert, "That is the last time you are ever gonna get her clothes off." Kimberly was also impressed with Robert's meal, but warned him, "Don't let the fact that you gave Lisa a massage let you think that you have a chance with her, because you still don't."
Robert thanked Laura and Kimberly for helping him with the meal, and said he was happy that Lisa's parents had accepted him "like I am one of their own." Lisa defended Robert, claiming that his massage was "not creepy; it was sweet." ( Robert's Date )
TO LIVE AND LOVE ANOTHER DAY
The night's dates over, each Suitor talked about how they felt being this close to the finish line. Robert expressed surprise that he had not ended up in the bottom three yet: "Maybe America is voting for me because they see me as somebody who is serious about Lisa." Hank admitted that Robert could win, since even his buddies back home were voting for him. But he made it clear that "I don't care about the money, I don't care about the competition. I want Lisa." Dominic said that he was determined "to make America believe that I am right for Lisa." Evan confessed, "The thought of potentially falling in love with [Lisa] and then not being the guy that's chosen? It's heartbreaking." Renda acknowledged that he might have come off occasionally as somewhat flaky, but continued, "According to the feelings I've developed so far, [Lisa's] worth fighting for." After all the Suitors had responded, Brian turned to Laura and Kimberly for their opinions on who America should ignore when voting for their favorite. Laura picked Renda, while Kimberly felt that Dominic should go. And then the phone lines were opened, which meant it was time, finally, for America to cast their all-important votes.
Tune in next Tuesday at 9PM ET/PT to find out who Lisa--and America--will say goodbye to, and which four Suitors will live on to love another day.
