Season 4: Episode 14: Slow Burn
While helping Delia chaperone a high school dance, Melinda encounters a ghost, Deborah Marks, who seems desperate to keep her teenage daughter, Kristy, away from her twenty year old friend, Tim. Deborah, who recognizes that Melinda can see her, demands Melinda's help in keeping Tim and Kristy apart, but won't give a specific reason as to why the two shouldn't see each other. After learning that Deborah had died after tripping and hitting her head on her fireplace, Melinda and Eli quickly discover that Tim was a former troubled teen who Deborah had spent a lot of time mentoring and who had been a frequent guest in the Marks' home, where Kristy had developed a crush on him. Clues from Kristy and Deborah's husband Doug lead Melinda to believe that Deborah may have been having an affair with Tim before she died and that that might account for why Deborah wanted them kept apart, but they soon discover that Tim was even closer to Deborah then they had imagined. It turns out that Tim was actually Deborah's son, who she had given up for adoption when she was 18 years old, making it very clear as to why Kristy and Tim should not be dating. Deborah had wanted to reconnect with Tim and because of adoption laws couldn't come clean as to what their actual relation was, but Melinda is able to get this message to the family and Deborah is able to cross over.
