Episode 112: Where's Bonanza, Dude?

Later that evening, the Council shares a meal with the Pueblos, seeking further advice on how to better lead Bonanza City. The Chief tells them how they should think about every person in Town equally, not just about who works the hardest, but about what each individual can add to society. DK thinks that perhaps the Council hasn't considered all of the TownsKids equally, as they've repeatedly awarded Gold Stars to the oldest, hard-working Kids in Town. DK thinks about perhaps giving a Gold Star to the smarter Kids in Town, regardless of age, as an investment in the future.

"Using Kid power, you can haul a lot of things, actually."
The Kids arrive at their next Showdown eager to prove that they can succeed without the help of their Council. The Kids will have to work their hardest in this Showdown as it is physically demanding. Each District must take apart their 'Homestead,' including a small house, livestock, a full-grown alpaca, and a flag, and cart it all across a huge field to re-assemble everything in a new location.

The Green Team works well together as always, and takes the Upper Class for the second time in a row. Jared helps direct Red to a second place finish to become the Merchants. Migle steps up and helps lead the Blue District to become the Cooks. And though the little Kids in the Yellow District sorely miss Blaine's manpower, Zach's strong leadership skills help them finish in the nick of time to win the Reward for the Town.

The Kids are all excited to have won the Town reward without the help of the Council, but are nervous about what prize Sheriff Sophia will pick. The first choice is a monument engraved with words that make Laurel teary-eyed as she reads them:

"On this site, in 2007, young pioneers came together to do what their forefathers could not: build a better world. They worked together, sacrificed together, cried together. But most importantly, they succeeded together. This monument commemorates their efforts and will forever stand here in Bonanza City, the world's first Kid Nation."

The second reward choice is equally amazing: a hot air balloon ride above Bonanza City for all of the Kids. Sophia is torn between the two options…a monument that will stand the test of time or an experience that will be the chance of a lifetime? Sophia ultimately picks the hot air balloon ride, and the TownsKids are all pleased with Sophia's choice and look forward to flying high above Bonanza City.

"We're not leaving behind the memories"
Before heading to bed, the Kids gather in the saloon to talk about their experiences thus far given their time in Bonanza is almost up. Zach makes a toast to Bonanza, while Migle declares that they should be proud of making the Town succeed. Guylan takes notice of Migle's good attitude and recent hard work, given she started in Bonanza as someone who didn't want to work.

Early the next morning, the TownsKids eagerly answer the summons of Sophia's wakeup bell, racing each other to be the first Kid inside one of the balloon baskets. The Kids shriek with excitement as the huge balloons lift them above Bonanza City, which suddenly seems quite small. And as they look down on the Town that they've come to know as home, the Kids think about all of the amazing experiences that they've had there and realize that their time with each other is quickly coming to an end.
