After a night of sleeping in the fort, the Pirates greet Cameron the next morning and he informs the crew that they are closer to the treasure than they think since Captain Steel's note brought them to this initial location. As everyone draws shot to determine which crew they'll join, Christa hopes to make it to the last Expedition for her daughter. "My daughter is always in my mind," she points out. "During every Expedition, I pray and I'm always praying for her and praying that I get treasure so I can share it with her." After everyone draws, the Red Crew consists of Jay, Kendra, Christa and Ben while the Black Crew includes Azmyth, Nessa, Louie and Laurel.
Unlocking the Clues
Cameron hands out the keys and clues before firing the blunderbuss, signaling the beginning of the Expedition. Jay reads the first clue, which says, "Align the keys on the stockade from large to small, look down the rings and through the wall." The stockades the Pirates need are located right where they slept. With the keys in place, a cannon will be revealed, beneath which they will find the torture chamber. There, they will solve a puzzle lock to remove the shackles they need to locate the treasure.
Both crews start by inserting the keys in their stockades, then looking through the rings. The Black Crew sees the cannon first and immediately runs to the torture chamber where Louie struggles as he tries to open the puzzle lock to loosen the shackles. The Red Crew catches up and Jay quickly figures out the puzzle lock, freeing the shackles. Christa reads the next clue, which states, "Keep the shackles close by as you'll eventually see, they will be needed atop the staircase after you've found the treasure key." The crews must now make their way to a staircase, where they will count the steps and solve a mathematic equation to discover the step where the treasure's key is hidden.
Stairway to Treasure
When the Red crew reaches the stairs, Christa reads the next clue, which states, "To find the treasure key, subtract one step, divide the total by 22, under the step is the key that waits for you." While the Red Crew starts to count steps, Louie still tries to figure out the puzzle lock while his crew waits impatiently. Eventually, he solves the puzzle and frees the shackles, but the Black Crew is now far behind. Meanwhile, Jay and Ben get to the top of the stairs and Christa figures out the key must be under the third step when she quickly rattles off the math equation, much to Jay's surprise.
