A Diplomatic Approach to Black Spots

The next morning, Christa finds that choosing two Pirates to mark with the Black Spot proves to be more difficult than expected. Approaching the decision diplomatically, Christa meets with each member of the crew individually and asks them who they think should be cut adrift. The crew is unanimous when almost everybody suggests Kendra and Azmyth. "Black Spotting people that the crew suggests you to Black Spot is brilliant," Christa says, realizing that she has shifted the blame. "I don't know why anybody never thought of it before."

When Christa hands out the letters to the crew, she assures them that the Black Spots went to the two people who were suggested the most. Azmyth isn't surprised to see his marked letter and Kendra points out that this is her fourth Black Spot. "Christa put an interesting twist on how to choose the Black Spots," observes Ben. "It looks diplomatic, fair. It takes the heat off of her for whoever doesn't get set adrift. So I think she played that smart."

The Strongest vs. the Weakest

In the galley, Jay reassures Azmyth that he has his back, but Azmyth doesn't seem worried. "I feel pretty safe," the former Captain says. "I plan on being here tonight and being here tomorrow." Later, Jay continues to get annoyed by Kendra when he overhears her laughing with her fellow shipmates about her four Black Spots.

As Pirate's Court draws near, Louie analyzes tonight's decision. "Kendra's perceived as the weakest swimmer and Azmyth is up there just because he's a strong competitor," Louie explains. "This is a perfect chance for if you want to vote for the weak, you vote for the weak. If you want to vote for the strong, you vote for the strong."
