Sabotaging the Expedition
On the Expedition, the Pirates must row to the anchor on the shore and travel up river, turning right at the skull marker to find the Smuggler's Den and look for a bottle containing their next clue. Once the Expedition begins, Jay starts purposefully rowing slowly, so the Black Crew's longboat takes the lead. The Black Crew reaches the beach first and runs up river, mistakenly running past the skull marker, which leads to Smuggler's Den. After realizing they've gone the wrong way, the Black Crew backtracks, which allows the Red Crew to catch up.
Both crews arrive at Smuggler's Den at the same time, so everyone searches through numerous bottles, looking for their next clue. Jay tries to slow the Red Crew down again by waiting outside while the rest of his crew searches inside. "If my crew were to win, I lose control of the ship," he says. "Today, I need to lose. It's all about power right now. I'm willing to do whatever it takes." Kendra finds the clue first, so the Red Crew heads outside.
Clues Beneath the Surface
Outside, the Red Crew sees that the clue is a piece of cloth with illegible writing on it. But Kendra realizes that the characters are legible once the cloth is wrapped around the bottle. The Black Crew does the same after Ben peeks over and sees how Kendra deciphers the clue. The clue explains that the crews must return to the anchor on the beach, uncover a chain, and follow it to their next clue, which is underwater. Inside the sunken crates are three pieces to a skull, that when assembled, will reveal a map to the treasure chest.
Both crews return to the anchor and dig while Jay finds a chain buried under the sand. He secretly points the chain out to Ben and tells him to follow the chain into the ocean. Ben swims out and asks Louie to bring the longboat. The Black Crew takes the longboat to the ocean and Ben swims underwater and attaches the grappling hook to the box that rests on the ocean floor so his crew can hoist it up. The Red Crew does the same and once both crews have retrieved their boxes, they return to the beach.
