Christa Has Second Thoughts
As the sun starts to set, Ben meets with Christa and wonders if her feelings have changed since yesterday. Christa tells Ben that she's afraid to give Jay a Black Spot and she worries about how it would affect Jay's kids. "I feel bad for them because I don't want them to ever think something bad about their dad because they love him," she explains. "I care about his kids. I don't want to send him home."
After Ben emphasizes the importance of courage, Christa decides that she wants to talk to Jay about this beforehand so he isn't blindsided. "I don't know if Christa has the tenacity to put Jay up on the Spot," Ben says, worried. "At points, she seems like she's rowdy enough to do anything and then at other times, she seems so swayable that she freaks me out."
Lies and Betrayals in the Captain's Cabin
Jay finds Christa and tells her that Ben was the one who admitted to being afraid of competing against Christa in the end. Christa doesn't know if she can trust this information, but Jay tries to reassure her that he's been on her side the whole time. Christa suggests they discuss this further with Ben also present.
Christa meets with Ben and Jay in the Captain's Cabin and wants to know which of them talked about not wanting to compete against her in the end. "What I have to say to people sometimes to play both sides of the fence, it's part of the game," Jay explains. "And there's gonna be discussions around a strong player like you."
Ben then tries to explain that when talking strategy, he has brought up the notion of Christa leaving the ship, which upsets Christa because she never wanted either of them to leave. On the verge of tears, Christa asks Ben point blank if he ever told Jay privately that he wants her gone and Ben says no. Jay says he wants to be honest and asks Ben who brought this up first and Ben points to Jay, surprised at his attempt to turn this all around on him.
