Both crews run through a river and arrive at Dead Man's Pool where Jay immediately retrieves the tools from underwater. With their tools in hand, the Pirates will next head downstream and find materials to build a raft they will need to continue their hunt. After the Black Crew leaves, the Red Crew remains at the pool where Ben puts on a diving mask and goes underwater to make sure Louie doesn't find the tools first. When Ben finds the clue underwater, he tries to hide it by digging up sand so it's tough to see anything underwater.
Paddle Problems
Meanwhile, the Black Crew stumbles across the raft they have to put together and Jay is impressed with how quickly Christa is able to assemble it. Once the raft is complete, Jay and Christa push it into Miracle Lake. They will now paddle to a tree laden with skulls. There, they will solve a puzzle and retrieve the treasure's key.
The Red Crew continues to search for the clue underwater before Ben eventually snatches it up, hoping that he has stalled long enough to give the Black Crew a head start. However, he is unaware that Christa isn't a strong rower, which becomes evident when she and Jay struggle as they paddle across the lake in their new raft.
Arriving at the Hangman's Gallows
Jay discovers the tree with skeletons and quickly retrieves the key from a slide puzzle before examining their next clue. The Pirates must now search Miracle Lake for the hangman's gallows. There, between two hanging Officers, they will dive to find the treasure. After assembling their raft, Ben and Louie row across the lake where Louie hopes his strength in paddling will overcome the Black Crew's lead. Louie retrieves the key from the slide puzzle and smiles when they see the Black Crew up ahead.
The Black Crew's boat arrives at the hangman's gallows and Jay jumps over the side of the raft and pulls the treasure out from underwater. After Christa fires the blunderbuss, Louie can barely hide his disappointment when he says, "I needed this one. Of any Expedition, this was my hardest loss. You try, you try, you try and you keep coming up short. And it's just not a good feeling."
