Steve Byrne & Ty Barnett
Steve Byrne went first in the Comedian category and gave a performance focusing on his Asian background and Bruce Lee. Carol Leifer gave him 4 stars, adding, "He's hysterical: so funny, so physical, great voices." "Very, very original, but a little bit of the same note over and over again," remarked Ben Stein, who gave him 3 stars. "I appreciate the originality," agreed Naomi Judd, adding, "but a little too esoteric for me," giving him 2 stars. Chaka Khan gave him 4 stars, telling him, "You're great. You're a little on the rough side."
Second up was Ty Barnett, who discussed his experiences in New York City. "Comedy at its best is about truth," commented Ben Stein, who gave him 4 stars, "He tells the truth even better than Richard Nixon!" Chaka Khan found him "really contemporary, really good, really clean and funny" and gave him 5 stars. Carol Leifer also gave him 5 stars, adding, "I absolutely loved him! Really smart, funny, clever jokes." Naomi Judd gave Ty 4 stars, saying warmly, "Laughter is the shortest distance between two people. I feel very close to you."
The judges favored Ty over Steve 18-13, and the home audience echoed the opinion, giving Steve 12 and Ty 17. Ty Barnett, with a total of 35 stars, will return next Thursday for the Semifinals. |
