Eric Kidd & Meaghan Markert
The first performer in the Junior Singer category, Eric Kidd, Jr., danced and rapped Lil Bow Wow’s hit “Basketball.” "T stands for talent. You have it!" remarked Naomi Judd, who gave Eric 4 stars. Ben Stein gave him 5 stars, adding, "This kid is better than Lil Bow Wow!" An impressed Carol Leifer gave Eric 4 stars as she remarked on his youth: "It's so great to see a rapper whose crib is an actual crib." Chaka Khan, who gave him 5 stars, said warmly, "You were brilliant. You're off the hook!" An impressed Carol Leifer gave him 4 stars.
The mood switched from rap to classical as the next performer, Meghan Markert, delivered a haunting rendition of the hymn "Ave Maria." "Fabulous voice, incredible. Needs a little more excitement in her performance, but the voice is perfect," remarked Ben Stein, who gave her 4 stars. Carol Leifer gave her 3 stars, adding, "Not exactly my style of music, and I think you could work on your stage presence." An impressed Naomi Judd gave her a score of 4 stars and advised, "Get your braces off, clean your room, go to school, take vocal lessons, and I'm going to come see you at the Metropolitan Opera!" Chaka Khan called Meghan "a bit of a prodigy," giving her 5 stars and a "Tuto bene! Bravo!"
Although the judges favored Eric over Meghan by one star, the home audience reversed the decision, giving Meghan 17 and Eric 14. Meghan Markert won the category and advances to next Thursday’s Semifinals. |
