David Archuleta is New Junior Singer Star
Twelve-year-old David Archuleta from Sandy, Utah won tonight's Junior Singer Final and the Grand Prize of $100,000. David opened the category and the show with his soulful rendition of "You're all I Need to Get By." He received a perfect 20 stars from the judges, and guest judge LeAnn Rimes told him, "You have really, really good control of your voice, and you had great stage presence and great pitch." Twelve-year-old Molly Bouchard from Caribou, Maine performed second, singing "This is the Moment." When Molly had finished, Ben Stein described her performance as "adorable, wonderful, just up against incredible competition." Once the judges' scores were tallied, David was ahead with a perfect 20 stars.
The home audience disagreed with the judges, giving Molly one star more than David, but when the home and judges' scores were combined, David's lead held. With 35 stars, David Archuleta won tonight's Junior Singer Final and walked off in triumph with $100,000.
