Eighteen-year-old Jessica Ann Sierra, from Tampa, Florida won the preliminary round in the Adult Singer category. Jessica sang first, performing country singer Martina McBride's hit "Independence Day," which she dedicated to her grandparents. Country singer Naomi Judd said that her performance had "emotionality and vulnerability, and I like that." Rachel Cerda, a 22-year-old theatre major from Chicago, was up next, singing "No More Drama," by Mary J. Blige. The judges chose Jessica to go up against a member of the Winners' Circle, giving her 9 stars.
After eyeing the competition in the Winners' Circle, Jessica called out Jake Simpson, who was challenged for the second week in a row. Jake sang "Turn Your Love Around," impressing the judges enough to keep his place in the Winners' Circle with 12 stars. Jake will return to STAR SEARCH on Saturday, January 31 at 8pm ET/PT.
