Karina Pasian & Scott Hoying
Twelve-year-old Karina Pasian from New York City won tonight's initial round in the Junior Singer category. Karina took the stage first, belting out the Jackson 5 song "I'll Be There," which prompted judge MC Lyte to say, "I feel like she had a lot of attitude, and that's what I like to see on the stage." Up next was Scott Hoying, from Arlington, Texas, who sang Billy Gilman's hit "There's a Hero." The judges chose Karina, awarding her 10 stars, and Scott 9 stars.
Next, it was time for a singing showdown. Karina called out Winners' Circle newcomer Spensha Baker, who sang the Whitney Houston song "When You Believe." After her performance, Matti Leshem proclaimed her a "superstar," and his fellow judges seemed to agree. Spensha kept her place in the Winners' Circle, and will return to STAR SEARCH Saturday, January 31 at 8pm ET/PT, to compete again.
