Harrell Holmes, Jr. & Charlene Cipollone
Harrell Holmes, Jr., an 11-year-old from Saginaw, Michigan, won tonight's first competition in the Junior Singer category. First to perform, Harrell took us back to Motown with the Temptations hit "Get Ready." The judges were wowed, and the hard-to-impress Mattie Leshem proclaimed Harrell "spectacular," while MC Lyte called him the "full package," complimenting his "fancy foot work, the dazzling smile, and the vocals." From Brenham, Rhode Island, 13-year-old Charlene Cipollone took the stage next, singing Patsy Cline's classic "Crazy." Charlene was awarded 7 stars, not enough to beat Harrell's 12, and Harrell moved on to the next part of the competition.
Facing the talented Winners' Circle, Harrell called out David Archuleta. Challenged for the second week in a row, David sang "Climb Every Mountain" from the musical "The Sound of Music," and succeeded in keeping his spot in the Winners' Circle with a score of 14 stars. David will return with the other Winners' Circle members on Saturday, February 14 at 8pm ET/PT.
WINNERS' CIRCLE
This week the members of the Winners' Circle had a chance to win every singer's dream: a trip to the Grammys. But only one of the Junior Singers can go, and to earn it, they've got to prove they're ready for the red carpet. Celebrity stylist Derek Lee offered Spensha Baker, Mark Mejia and David Archuleta some personal style tips, and then the three singers were let loose to shop. Their mission was to prove they were ready for the fashionable trip down the red carpet.
Each of the Winners' Circle members took Derek Lee's advice into account as they sifted through racks of clothes, but whose ensemble impressed Derek the most? All three looked great, but Derek could only choose one for the Grammys, and he picked 11-year-old Spensha, whom Derek said "really nailed it." Spensha is thrilled to be going to the Grammys, but all three Junior Singers are looking forward to being called out of the Winners' Circle for a sing-off!
