Jacob Boyd & Alexandrea Lushington
Thirteen-year-old Alexandrea Lushington from Atlanta won Saturday night's Junior Singer preliminary round. Jacob Boyd, a 14-year-old from Brenham, Texas sang first, bringing a little bit of country to STAR SEARCH with his rendition of Lonestar's "Like a Good Cowboy." Alexandrea performed next, singing an R&B version of the standard "My Funny Valentine." Matti said of her performance "Your phrasing was incredibly original. You really had a beautiful performance." MC Lyte agreed, saying "I love the tone, the fullness." Alexandrea won with 13 stars, but she had to face some stiff competition from the Winners' Circle.
Alexandrea challenged 13-year-old David Archuleta, who sang "Get Here" by Oleta Adams. With 14 stars, David won, and continues in the Winners' Circle on Saturday, February 28 at 8pm ET/PT.
Winners' Circle
In last week's Winners' Circle Showdown, Mark Mejia won a spot in the Finals and a trip home to San Diego, California, where Mark was "really surprised" with a party thrown by his old school. Meanwhile, David Archuleta and Spensha Baker stayed back to practice, so that they can compete to keep their places in the Winners' Circle.
Spensha looked forward to being challenged, and said "I have an awesome song that I want the world to hear." David agreed, saying "If I get called out I will be glad because I got to sing, and that's really the reward."
