Casey Schuber & Ashlee Keating
Nine-year-old Ashlee Keating from Linwood, New Jersey won tonight's Junior Singer preliminary round. Competing first was Casey Schuber, a 10-year-old from Toms River, New Jersey, who sang the Martina McBride country hit "A Broken Wing." Ashlee Keating performed next, and sang "Happy Days Are Here Again." Matti called her performance "an amazing rendition" of a classic song, adding, "You've got a lot of heart." MC Lyte agreed, saying, "I love the life you put into the performance." Tied with 11 stars, the judges had to choose a winner, and they chose Ashlee. Last week, a new Junior Singer sang his way into the Winners' Circle. Would the same happen again this week?
Ashlee challenged Winners' Circle newcomer Kevin Francis, who sang The Temptations' Motown hit "My Girl." With 12 Stars, Kevin returns for the Finals on Saturday, March 13 at 8pm ET/PT, to compete against Spensha Baker and Mark Mejia.
Winners' Circle
This week, the Junior Singer Winners' Circle members got a chance to sing for Ron Fair, the president of A&M Records, and received some professional advice. Mark Mejia sang first, and Ron praised his performance, but warned him that his voice will change when he gets older. Mark admitted that he is "terrified" of his voice changing. Spensha Baker sang next, giving a performance that Ron described as "really, really crazy impressive." He warned Spensha that she has a "power" that may make other kids jealous. Third to perform was Winners' Circle newcomer Kevin Francis, and Ron complimented his "nice, deep baritone voice," but warned Kevin that the music industry is a "business filled with disappointment."
Mark Mejia looked forward to using Ron's advice for the Finals, and Spensha and Kevin focused on keeping their place in the Winners' Circle this week, and prepared to be challenged.
