America Declares Jake Simpson Grand Champion
Jake Simpson was the winner of the Adult Singer Finals, winning $100,000 and a recording contract with A& M Records. Before the Finals competition, each of the Adult Singers went into the studio to record singles that would be available from Napster during and after the show. In preparing for the Finals, Jake Simpson said he was "drinking a lot of coffee, not sleeping, and being in the studio 24 hours a day." He added, "I've worked so hard at this, I really don't want to lose." Vickie was inspired by her time spent in the studio, saying it made her "want to work even harder" for the Finals. As for Freedom Bremner, who won a free pass to the Finals earlier in the season, he kept his eyes on the prize, saying "I'm gonna win, I need to win. Sorry, that's why I came here."
Freedom Bremner took the stage first, performing Steve Winwood's "While You See a Chance." Naomi complimented his "hybrid of styles," and called him a "knock-out singer." Jake Simpson performed next, singing George Michael's "One More Try." Naomi said she got "emotional" from Jake's performance, telling him "I believe in you so strongly." Matti agreed, telling the home audience "you have to vote for Jake tonight." Last to perform was Vickie Natale, who sang "Doctor Feelgood," originally performed by Aretha Franklin. MC Lyte called her a "powerhouse," and Naomi complimented her voice, calling her a "singer's singer."
Web voters agreed with Matti, and with 12 stars, Jake Simpson won the Adult Singer Finals, taking home $100,000 and a recording contract with A & M Records. Congratulations to STAR SEARCH Grand Champion Jake Simpson!
