April: What's your favorite aspect of the game?
Clarence Black: I guess my favorite aspect is the physical challenges, the opportunity to go out and compete against the land like the natives do. I didn't enjoy the soap opera aspects, but I really enjoyed the physical challenge because that's what the Masai and other tribes deal with everyday. For us to get a sampling of that for an hour or two a day was just awesome. I really liked that.
Crashguy: What did you think when Frank the archery expert didn't hit a single target?
Clarence Black: When Frank didn't hit a target I didn't think anything of it, because he had already shown in teaching us just how good he is. What people didn't get to see is that Frank spent three hours teaching us how to shoot and got very little practice time himself, and maybe that showed. Also it's not one of those things where he could be consistent. I could teach someone how to shoot basketballs, and out of five, they could make three. It's just not an exact science. He did more teaching than practicing, and that's all that showed. He never had a chance to get his rhythm right because he spent so much time showing us what to do.
Brandon_Rocks: Was Frank really that much of an outcast from the rest of the group?
Clarence Black: Again, I can only say how I felt, because I didn't really spend too much time talking about Frank. He didn't seem like an outcast from my point of view. He's just a guy who knew what he stood for and a guy who knew what he was willing to compromise on or not compromise in terms of his morals. At times he just didn't have a very popular opinion. While he was a part of new Boran, we never had a single issue with him. I liked him personally.
dlollifromhillsdale: How did you prepare for the lack of food and water leading up to the show?
Clarence Black: I worked with a personal trainer, and we worked on things like balance, working out without getting water. I gained about ten pounds of fat by just eating junk food!
Duck: What really happened with "Beangate"?
Clarence Black: [laughs] I knew somebody would get to this! The truth is, after watching and re-watching episode one and getting my mind back to that place and time, I realized that it's a big possibility that I probably did have more than 90% of that can of beans. I did open the can for Diane, and just was not paying attention, due to dehydration, just how much of the beans I was eating myself. So, while I do believe that the beans helped Diane feel better, I didn't keep track of how much I was eating and didn't realize it until I watched episode one.
