A LEADER IS NEEDED
"This is day 7 and our tribe is definitely pathetic," explained Jeanne Hebert, the 41-year-old marketing director from North Attleboro, Massachusetts, as she described the disarray and unsanitary conditions around camp. While wasps invaded their grimy pots and pans, tarantulas crawled in their moldy food. Realizing that organization was a must, the Jaburu tribe called a meeting to elect a leader who would be responsible for delegating chores, in hopes of bringing order to the chaotic camp. In a strategic move, Jeanne and JoAnna elected Deena the leader. Jeanne explained, "We chose Deena to be the leader because she is a little hot-headed, and we think she is going to create a little friction." Reluctant, yet willing to accept the role, Deena began delegating tasks to help pull the camp together.
REWARD CHALLENGE: MATCHMAKER
After receiving Tree Mail, both tribes reconvened with host Jeff Probst, where he explained the rules of the upcoming Reward Challenge, entitled "Matchmaker." Each of the castaways was placed at one of 14 separate playing stations, which held 5 different personal hygiene items. One at a time, the players would have to ask one other tribe member if they had a corresponding item in their container. A match would result in one point for their tribe. In round-robin fashion, each player would attempt to make matches until one tribe obtained 18 pairs, which would mean a majority win. The Reward was a basket filled with personal hygiene items, including soap and shampoo.
As the game began, the men of Tambaqui found a new opportunity to flirt as they asked the women for hygiene items. The women were only too happy to flirt back. The men took an early lead, yet the women's formidable memory skills soon proved themselves as they outwitted the men and won the much-desired hygiene kit. ( Action at the Reward Challenge )
