Michigans (Chili Dogs)

Growing up in Plattsburgh, New York there were several different places to get Michigans (I think it is the official food of the North Country). Families were split over the best sauces and ingredients. As a kid I always liked my dogs naked but as an adult I experimented with my own recipe that uses ground turkey instead of ground beef. I'm sure there are many purists that will object.

Ingredients
1 lb lean ground turkey
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 can black beans
salt
black pepper
cayenne
red chili powder
paprika

Place turkey, canned tomatoes, beans and juice into a heavy saucepan on high. Bring to boil and reduce to low heat. Add spices and simmer for an hour or more.
Add more spices to taste.

Add sauce to cooked hot dogs and garnish with cheese, jalapenos, onions, etc.
