Jewelry Pouch

This hand made gift massages the heartstrings of any mom, bride, sister or best friend. Luxurious in satin lined velvet and trimmed with appliquéd silk flowers, pearls and stones, this thoughtful boutique gift is sure to bring a smile and a treasured memory.

Supplies
½ yd. velvet
½ yd. satin lining
2 yds. 1/4" ribbon
8 hydrangea petals
3 dozen pearls
sewing machine with thread
1 safety pin
scissors
measuring tape
needle board

Directions
1. Cut two circles 15" diameter, one out of velvet, one out of satin (use a plate or old record to help you make an accurate round template.)
2. Cut two more circles 10 1/2" diameter, one out of velvet, one out of satin.
3. With right sides together, sew circles together along outer edge using 1/2" seams. Leave a 3" space for turning.
4. Notch (clip tint V's) along outside circle seam line to the stitching but not through the stitching.
5. Turn to right side and press seams along edge being careful to place velvet on needle board to avoid crushing the pile. This will cause shine. Don't do it. Don't even use real velvet if you don't have a needle pressing board.
6. Hand slipstitch openings closed.
7. Place satin side of small circle on top of satin side of large circle. Pin in place. Use a lot of pins. This gets very slippery.
8. Stitch large circle just above small circle. (approx. 2" from large outside edge).
9. Stitch another row 3/4" from last row closer to edge. Now there's 1 1/4" channel stitching from outside edge of large circle not involving small circle at all. This is the casing for your ribbon.
10. Slice two holes on opposite ends through the velvet layer only inside the casing. Whip stitch around slice. These are buttonholes for the ribbon that will be in the casing.
11. Place a glass with a 3 1/2" diameter in exact center of small circle (velvet side up) and trace.
12. Using a ruler, mark small circle into 8 equal pieces around small circle (as if you were cutting a pizza).
13. Sew pinned circles together around center small circle marking and along each pizza wedge marking. Be sure to back tack the beginning and ending of each seam for reinforcement.
14. With velvet side of large circle facing you, use safety pin to thread 1 yard of ribbon through casing. Start and end at the same opening. Repeat on opposite side. Tie a sturdy knot to secure both ribbon ends together.
15. Pull both ribbon loop ends. Presto-chango, you have turned flat fold fabric into a designer jewelry pouch! Congratulations!
