Memory Box
Supplies
wooden box with a drawer; can be purchased from a craft store
map
spray mount adhesive
fabric
Tools
scissors
glue gun and glue sticks
sandpaper (fine)
Directions
1. Measure and cut map into pieces that will cover the wooden box.
2. Use spray mount to adhere map to wooden box. Start with most noticeable area first, spray the spray mount adhesive on wooden box, place map piece on top and smooth out wrinkles. Continue until box is covered with map pieces.
3. Use fine sandpaper to sand over the map after it is applied to the box. This will give it a distressed look.
4. Place fabric inside drawer so that entire drawer is covered and the fabric is hanging over all edges of the drawer. Cut the fabric about two inches larger than what will be needed to line the drawer.
5. Fold excess fabric under to hide all raw edges. The fabric shouldn't extend past the top edges of the drawer. Apply hot glue close to top edge of drawer and adhere the folded edge of fabric to the glue. You may have to hand gather fabric in places while affixing to the glue. Once finished the fabric becomes the lining for the drawer.
6. Trip memorabilia or natural items can be kept in the drawer. Once finished the box can be used for storage, display or as decoration.
Note: Due to the humidity at the campsite, the wood box expanded. The drawer had to be sanded and chiseled so it would fit into the opening. If this project is made and used indoors this will not be a problem.
