Being careful not to shave the fleshy pad of your thumb off, use the pruning sheers to take away any excess branches. To create the shape you want, cut away any leaves and branches that will help you achieve your shape. Always take into careful consideration how much foliage you are removing. Before making each cut, visually start at the bush's trunk and follow each branch to the tip, taking notice of all the offshoot branches it carries. The trick to this art is not in what you remove, but what you do NOT remove.
