2 carved ornamental pieces (pre-cut pieces are available at home improvement stores)
wood glue
3/4 inch trim nails

Create a box by gluing the edges of the 4 inch x 4 inch wooden pieces together. Be sure to butt-join the pieces together in alternating arrangement to create a finished box with 4 3/8 inch x 4 3/8 inch overall dimensions. Clamp box together and nail sides.

When glue dries, remove clamps. Glue base on and nail together. When glue dries, fill nail holes with wood putty. Allow wood putty to dry and sand off excess. Continue to sand remainder of box until smooth. Brush off any sawdust. Glue ornamental pieces on two opposing sides. Spray with paint. Apply two to three coats of paint, allowing each to dry in between coats.
