"...But A Canvas"

I wanted to create a most unique mask for this challenge. I was inspired by the whole "artist" vibe of this challenge, so I made my mask from an actual artist canvas. It is showcased in a complete artist vignette. I looked to a favorite quote by Thoreau: "The world is but a canvas to the imagination". I certainly have a wonderfully big imagination - that is why I titled this piece "...But A Canvas". Here is how I created my individual mask project for this week's challenge.

Materials
2" artist brush
#12 artist brush
6.5" x 5" artist canvas
1" red satin ribbon
red felt
false eyelashes
red beads
black embroidery thread
various artist papers
paint - black & gold acrylic
pallet Knife
12" x 12" artist pallet
12" x 12" wood plaque
small wood clamp
glue gun
wood screws
exacto knife
artist crayons, clay, etc.

Paint the artist pallet and wood plaque with black paint. Glue the pallet to the wood plaque. Attach the 2" artist brush to the top of the pallet using wood screws. Secure with wood clamp, which stays in place as part of the vignette. Glue various pieces of the artist paper to the top of the pallet, along with artist crayons, artist clay, etc. Be sure to artfully display these items. To construct the mask, first cut eyeholes in the canvas with an exacto knife. Adorn the mask with paint, beads and pieces of artist paper, as you like. Glue the set of false eyelashes onto the eye openings you've cut.

To trim the inside of the canvas, use felt cut into strips, miter the corners and glue to the inside of the canvas (where the staples are located.) Also, for the inside of the mask - glue and miter the red ribbon (along the wooden edge of the canvas.) Attach your mask with a wood screw to the #12 Artist Brush. This brush acts as your handle for the mask. I trailed black embroidery thread along the top and side of the mask to act as hair. I used the pallet knife to affix the title of my work of art - "...But A Canvas". The pallet knife was glued in place. Now be sure to sign your original work of art!
