Online credit theft
Having your wallet stolen was always a headache, but it could be managed by canceling your credit cards. Unfortunately, online scammers have found a new way to pickpocket your "plastic," capturing just the numbers that you entered to make a purchase online. It can take awhile to realize what happened when your card never goes missing. Around the world, massive credit card fraud results in billions of dollars in losses each year.
Making matters worse, thieves have realized that they can make small purchases to avoid suspicion from cardholders and banks. Now multiply that by their ability to do it with thousands of stolen or fraudulent cards at a time. In a recent case, 22 defendants were found responsible for using more than 7,000 false identities and 25,000 different credit cards.
