When your key fob is within range, many newer cars can be unlocked by just pressing a button on the door handle. That sounds convenient—but for whom? It turns out car thieves can also take advantage of this technology.
While car manufacturers only design them to work within a few feet, criminals have found that signal-boosters can extend the range of the system. If a key fob is moderately close to their vehicle, say inside a coffee shop or even your house, somebody else might have that same convenience as you—simply opening the door and walking away with anything inside.
