Season 5, Episode 1: "Bury Your Dead"
We returned from a suspenseful season to find ourselves in one of the most stressful periods in NCIS history. Jenny's secret agenda had put DiNozzo's life in serious danger. While he was face-to-face with La Grenouille, DiNozzo realized his cover had been blown--and so did Jenny. When the NCIS team started to worry about DiNozzo's whereabouts, Jenny finally 'fessed up to sending him on an undercover mission to track the notorious arms dealer.
Her explanation was cut short by word that DiNozzo's car had exploded. Back in the lab, Ducky confirmed that the body did not belong to their wise-cracking coworker, much to everyone's relief. But who would blow up the car--and why?
CIA Agent Trent Kort assured the team that his agency, which was also investigating the arms dealers, wasn't responsible for blowing up DiNozzo's car. This time, he was telling the truth.
Jenny found La Grenouille in her study and proceeded to grill him on her father's fingerprints and DiNozzo's close call with death. He told her one of his enemies must have rigged the explosion, thinking Jeanne would be driving when it went off. Then he dropped a double bombshell: Jenny's father wasn't as innocent as she thought, and La Grenouille wasn't the one who killed him.
Jenny couldn't accept La Grenouille's claim that he gave her father a bribe. Later, she led her team to the docks, hoping to question La Grenouille on his boat. They didn't find him, but we saw his lifeless body floating in the water nearby. If the team was going to find answers, they wouldn't be coming from him.
