An update from Sarah Goodrich, Executive Director of Schoharie Area Long Term:
"On November 18, 2002, David Letterman had half the Village of Schoharie, NY bused into New York City to become his entire audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater for that evening's program. That was a day Schoharie will long remember.
"Floods caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee either destroyed or damaged two thousand homes in the Schoharie Creek Basin in late August, 2011. Eighteen months later hundreds of families are still displaced.
"In late 2011 Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT) was established to coordinate the long term recovery efforts.
"A year and a half later, work on repairing homes, businesses and the entire community continues. A recent survey conducted by SALT revealed that nearly 300 homes still have significant need.
"This morning (3/14/13) Fenimore Asset Management in Cobleskill, NY presented SALT with a $250,000 check to apply toward that recovery. SALT has also raised an additional $250,000 to match the donation from Fenimore Asset Management."
