Pilot: In the pilot episode, we meet Martina Garretti, a young working-class girl who recently joined the team at Stark & Rowan, a prestigious New York City law firm. Martina sticks out like a sore thumb among her pedigreed Manhattan colleagues, but she uses her street smarts and tenacity to make an impression with her boss, Donovan Stark, who assigns her as third chair on a murder case. The case is against Ellie Fordham, a young student accused of killing her professor at his apartment. Martina meets with Ellie and is instantly convinced that the hardworking young girl is innocent, so she teams up with police investigator Riv Brody to dig through evidence on the case. She and Riv eventually discover that another professor, Andrew Treaster, lied to the police about his alibi the night of the murder. Treaster had a disagreement with Ellie's professor and shoved him, causing him to hit his head. He later died from the head trauma shortly after Ellie came to visit him, making her look like the killer. Martina and her team come up with enough evidence to force the DA to drop the charges against Ellie, giving Martina her first victory in court. ...
