You know Joel McHale as an actor, comedian, and champion of the people.
Well, now the star of the freshman CBS comedy The Great Indoors is also your host for the People's Choice Awards 2017, which will be broadcast live on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 9pm to 11pm (delayed PT) on CBS and CBS All Access.
"The people have spoken, and they want Jimmy Kimmel to host the 2017 Oscars! And the people have also spoken, and said that it would be okay if I hosted the 2017 People's Choice Awards," McHale joked in today's announcement. "Well, one person said that. Luckily, that person was [CBS Chairman, President, and CEO] Les Moonves, so no one questioned it."
At this year's awards, McHale's The Great Indoors is up for Favorite New TV Comedy.
McHale is no stranger to hosting, having performed similar duties at the 2014 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner and the 2015 ESPY Awards.
Of course, he's also well known for his tenure as host of The Soup, in addition to starting in other TV shows like Community, The X-Files, plus a number of feature films.
A successful stand-up comedian, McHale recently published his first book, which is part memoir, part how-to guide, called Thanks For The Money: How To Use My Life Story To Become The Best Joel McHale You Can Be.
For 43 years, People's Choice Awards has been the only major awards show voted on entirely by fans, and honors your favorites in movies, music, television, and digital. This year's event will be celebrated at the Microsoft Theater L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
Nominations were revealed in November and, while voting has closed for most categories, you can still cast a potentially decisive vote for Favorite New TV Comedy and Favorite New TV Drama.
Cast those final votes now at PeoplesChoice.com, on Facebook, or on Facebook Messenger. For more updates on the People's Choice Awards, you can also follow along on Twitter and Instagram.
