"If I could have imagined what I would have wanted the Star Trek VR game to be, this is it," exclaimed LeVar Burton from Star Trek: The Next Generation. "This is what we've been waiting for!"

That VR game will be called Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and it's being released this fall on all major VR systems from Ubisoft.

Announced during the Ubisoft E3 2016 press conference, this is the first time fans will be able to step onto a Starfleet bridge in a fully rendered and immersive 360-degree experience, all without leaving the comfort of their home planet. The cooperative gameplay of Star Trek: Bridge Crew means that your friends can join you in the captain's chair, at the helm, the tactical station, or engineering station. Together, you'll take the U.S.S. Aegis (NX-1787) for her maiden voyage and onto adventures befitting the iconic franchise.

"This really is breathtaking," said Karl Urban from Star Trek Beyond. "Hearing who you're playing with, you can look over and see the person, and see them doing their job and talk to them." Burton and Urban were joined by Jeri Ryan from Star Trek: Voyager and David Votypka from Ubisoft Red Storm to try out the game in a video shown during the announcement.

"We really had to work together to accomplish the mission. What's more Star Trek than that?" Burton said about the gameplay. "No one position is more important than any other. Everybody has to do their level best in order to get the job done. That's at the core of what Star Trek has always been about for me."

After the video played, Burton was interviewed on stage by press conference emcee (and The Talk host) Aisha Tyler.

"We use our imaginations so much when you're on the set," recalled Burton, who rocked the original VR headset as Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation. "When you're operating the console, it's really not connected to anything! But here's the thing, you don't have to imagine in this game. You are existing in a completely rendered environment. You're in the bridge of a starship and you're with your friends."
