Speaking at the Mission: New York convention last weekend, Star Trek: Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer revealed that the story will be explored in multiple formats. In addition to the new series coming to CBS All Access, fans can also look forward to a new comic book series from IDW and a novel.

For the comic, Beyer will team with IDW's Star Trek writer Mike Johnson and artist Tony Shasteen. Meanwhile, author David Mack—who has written dozens of Trek books and co-wrote two episodes of Deep Space Nine—will pen the new novel for publisher Simon & Schuster.

Story details are being kept under wraps for now, but we do know the TV show (executive produced by Bryan Fuller) is set 10 years before Captain Kirk's five-year mission and will star a female, non-captain Starfleet officer.

Star Trek: Discovery will be made available exclusively on CBS All Access.
